An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Applications Engineer to join Somerford Equipment Ltd, a specialist manufacturer of road marking vehicles and equipment serving customers throughout the UK and internationally.
Working directly alongside the Managing Director, this role sits at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing and customer applications. You will develop a detailed understanding of our specialist vehicles, how they are designed, manufactured and operated, and how they solve real\-world challenges for our customers.
This position is ideally suited to a graduate who enjoys engineering, problem\-solving and customer interaction, and who wants to develop both technical and commercial skills within a specialist manufacturing business.
As your knowledge and experience develop, you will become a trusted technical adviser to customers and play an increasing role in account management, business development and strategic growth initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Develop a thorough understanding of Somerford's specialist vehicles, equipment and manufacturing processes.
- Work closely with engineering and production teams to understand vehicle design, functionality and performance.
- Attend customer meetings, site visits and vehicle demonstrations throughout the UK.
- Support customers in identifying the most appropriate vehicle specifications and solutions for their operational requirements.
- Act as a technical point of contact for customers, providing product guidance and responding to application\-related queries.
- Assist with the preparation of technical specifications, quotations, proposals and customer documentation.
- Participate in vehicle inspections, testing, commissioning, acceptance activities and customer demonstrations.
- Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations and factory visits for customers and stakeholders.
- Gather customer feedback and operational insights to support product development, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Represent the company at industry exhibitions, trade shows and technical events.
- Support the Managing Director on key customer relationships, strategic projects and future business growth initiatives.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Business Management or a related discipline.
- Strong technical aptitude and an interest in engineering and manufacturing.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence interacting with customers and stakeholders.
- Analytical and solution\-focused approach to problem solving.
- Eager to learn and develop technical expertise.
- Ambition to progress and drive organisational success.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel throughout the UK and internationally.
- Placement, internship or work experience within engineering or manufacturing.
- Knowledge of vehicle systems, hydraulics, mechanical engineering or industrial equipment.
- Customer\-facing experience or commercial awareness.
- Interest in developing future account management and business development responsibilities.
