Location

Our headquarters is in 2, Capital Quarter, Cardiff, which has been specifically designed to meet our needs. This is where most colleagues will meet to collaborate, both with each other and with stakeholders.

As we operate across Wales, we also have limited office and collaboration space in Welsh Government offices in Llandudno Junction, Aberystwyth, Swansea and Merthyr Tydfil.

Main purpose of the job

This is an important role at the heart of Medr’s communications function.

You will work with colleagues from across Medr to effectively communicate Medr’s growing tertiary funding and regulatory remit across a range of channels, most notably Medr’s website and intranet.

This will include advising on, designing and publishing digital content such as publications, reports and statistical releases and bringing new perspectives on how Medr could better use digital channels to engage with interested parties.

Job description

What you’ll be doing

Demonstrating a meticulous eye for detail and presentation, you will:

  • Deliver timely, high‑quality and accessible digital content by working with teams across Medr to plan, develop and publish content in line with organisational standards, digital best practice and branding guidelines.

  • Maintain the accuracy, accessibility and performance of the Medr website by editing content, creating new pages and advising on publication in close collaboration with the Senior Communications Manager and colleagues.

  • Quality‑assure all website changes, ensuring appropriate approvals, testing and feedback are incorporated to optimise user experience.

  • Enable efficient content workflows from conception to publication, advising staff and working with translation and external services to meet deadlines in time‑pressured environments.

  • Support coherent and consistent messaging across digital channels by working closely with the communications team and stakeholders across Medr.

  • Ensure the effective day‑to‑day running of the website by monitoring issues, maintaining logs and liaising with IT and hosting providers to resolve technical problems.

  • Support transparency, compliance and trust by coordinating the accurate and timely publication of official statistics and advising on website and intranet updates.

  • Improve digital capability across Medr by championing best practice, using analytics and evaluation tools, supporting training, and maintaining high standards of accuracy, clarity and organisational voice.

  • Supporting a rapidly developing organisation by helping to shape and refine how Medr is portrayed, understood and recognised, both within the tertiary sector and more widely.

  • Adapting communications approaches and channels in response to change within the tertiary sector or Government, including emerging best practice and audience expectations.

  • Bringing original ideas and problem‑solving skills to complex or ambiguous communications challenges.
About your team

You will be supported in your work by a small but growing communications and public affairs team with a breadth of communications and tertiary experience and knowhow.

The team currently includes a Digital and Publications Officer, a Senior Communications Manager and a Head of team.

The team reports directly to the CEO.

Your line Manager

Emma Rączka, Senior Communications Manager at Medr, has extensive experience in higher education communications and policy, including previous roles at HEFCW and Universities Wales. She is part of Medr’s wider Communications team, providing guidance and support across a shared portfolio of work to help teams deliver high‑quality, effective communications.
