AAA Programme Co-ordinator

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) co\-ordinator within the West Yorkshire (WYO) NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Service. The role is a senior role, responsible for leading the operational delivery of the NHS AAA Screening Programme across the region. The post combines leadership, service management, quality assurance, and patient pathway coordination. The base is at Calderdale Royal Hospital and the hours of work is 28 over 4 days.

The role involves managing screening pathways, coordinating clinics, supervising staff, monitoring performance, maintaining high\-quality data, and working collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams to provide an effective and patient\-centred screening service.

The post holder contributes to service development, quality improvement, governance, and compliance with national screening standards while ensuring patients receive timely screening, surveillance, and onward referral where appropriate.

• Coordinate the daily operational management of the AAA Screening Programme.


• Plan and organise community screening clinics across the service area.


• Monitor patient pathways from invitation through screening, surveillance, referral, and discharge.


• Ensure screening targets and national Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved.


• Supervise, support, and provide guidance to screening technicians and administrative staff.


• Manage staff rotas, workload allocation, training, and induction.


• Ensure accurate and timely data entry onto the national AAA Screening IT system.


• Produce activity reports, performance data, and service information for managers and commissioners.


• Investigate incidents, complaints, and service issues, implementing appropriate actions.


• Lead or participate in clinical audits and quality improvement projects.


• Ensure compliance with NHS England screening standards, information governance, safeguarding, and health and safety requirements.


• Reports to NHS England and SQAS (Screening Quality Assurance).


• Work closely with vascular consultants, sonographers, GPs, primary care teams, hospitals, and regional screening colleagues to ensure effective patient care.


• Manage patient enquiries and resolve complex administrative or operational issues.


• Support service planning, business continuity, and implementation of new policies and procedures.


• Participate in team meetings, training, and continuing professional development.


• Escalation to Programme Managers in the event of any incidents.


• Deputise for the Programme Managers when required within the scope of the role.
