Veterinary Nurse Assistant – Join Our Friendly, Busy Team

We are seeking a local, dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Nurse Assistant to join our small, friendly, and fast\-paced practice. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for animal care and welfare, combining practical skills with empathy for both our patients and their owners.

Although we are a small practice, we are extremely busy, so we need someone eager, confident, and highly motivated to thrive in this role. You will be an essential part of our team, supporting our veterinary nurses and surgeons in providing the highest standard of care.

Hours \& On\-Call Commitment
Following successful training, the role will include support for our on\-call weekend rota (Saturday to Sunday). This is a shared monthly rota, carefully structured and fairly distributed among nursing staff to cover Friday evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

Key Duties

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and procedures by preparing instruments and equipment.

  • Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.

  • Monitor anaesthesia and vital signs during surgical procedures.

  • Observe patients pre\- and post\-procedure, reporting any changes to the clinical team.

  • Maintain accurate patient records, ensuring all information is up\-to\-date.

  • Provide nursing care to hospitalised patients, including feeding, grooming, and administering fluids.

  • Support reception duties when required, including booking appointments and responding to client queries.

  • Educate pet owners on post\-operative care, nutrition, and general health maintenance for their animals.

  • Ensure clinic cleanliness, including sterilising instruments and maintaining examination rooms.
Experience \& Skills
  • Previous experience or background in animal care is desirable but not essential; on\-site training will be provided.

  • Strong communication skills for interacting effectively with both pet owners and team members.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast\-paced environment while maintaining excellent attention to detail.
Important Information
  • This is a training role, not an apprenticeship; applications for apprenticeships will not be considered.
