We are looking for an experienced and organised Transport Planner to join our busy transport operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience within road transport or logistics who is confident working in a fast\-paced environment and can effectively plan vehicles, drivers and customer requirements.
Experience using Mandata Transport Management System (TMS) would be highly advantageous, although training can be provided for the right candidate.
The Role
As Transport Planner, you will be responsible for the day\-to\-day planning and coordination of our transport operation, ensuring vehicles and drivers are utilised efficiently while maintaining excellent levels of customer service.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Planning and allocating daily vehicle and driver movements
- Maximising vehicle utilisation and minimising empty running
- Communicating effectively with drivers throughout their shifts
- Liaising with customers regarding collections, deliveries and any changes to schedules
- Monitoring deliveries and dealing with delays or operational issues
- Updating jobs and movements within the Transport Management System
- Working closely with the wider transport and warehouse teams
- Ensuring drivers' hours, Working Time Directive and transport compliance requirements are considered when planning
- Managing last\-minute changes and finding practical solutions to operational problems
- Maintaining accurate transport records and paperwork
- Supporting the Transport Manager with the smooth running of the department
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience working within transport planning, traffic planning or a similar logistics role
- A good understanding of UK road transport operations
- Strong organisational and problem\-solving skills
- The ability to remain calm and make decisions in a busy operational environment
- Excellent communication skills when dealing with drivers, customers and colleagues
- Good IT skills
- Experience using Mandata TMS is highly desirable
- Knowledge of drivers' hours and Working Time Directive regulations would be advantageous
- A proactive and flexible approach to work
