Flare Electrical \& Solar Contractors is a specialist commercial electrical and renewable energy contractor based in Sevenoaks, Kent. We operate two core divisions — commercial Solar PV installations and commercial LED lighting upgrades — delivering projects across the UK for a client base that includes schools, local authorities, and large commercial occupiers.
We're a directly employed business — with occasional use for subbies.
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Solar PV Project Manager to take full ownership of commercial solar projects from pre\-start through to commissioning and handover. This is a hands\-on, high\-responsibility role — you'll be managing live project delivery, coordinating with engineers on the ground, keeping clients informed, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
You'll work closely with the Operations Director and report directly into senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Pre\-Delivery
- Sales handover and assistance for pricing.
- Manage DNO notification and connection request submissions.
- Obtain and review structural surveys, building quotations, and contractor/plant quotes.
- Check and validate sales quotations prior to project mobilisation.
- Build out detailed project programmes and procurement schedules.
- Create RAMS and Construction Phase Plans; obtain RAMS from any specialist contractors.
- Track all costs against the job using SimPro Software
- Manage engineer scheduling via SimPRO; liaise with site supervisors on project continuity.
- Manage all client communications
- Monitor project progression against invoicing milestones and update programmes accordingly.
- Control project budgets and resource allocation; flag and capture out\-of\-scope works early.
- Conduct regular site visits to oversee installation quality and maintain client relationships.
- Report project status to senior management on a bi\-weekly or monthly basis.
- Maintain QMS project files — keeping documentation accurate, current, and audit\-ready.
- Ensure all site H\&S folders, toolbox talks, and operative training records are in order.
- Generate MCS certificates and Electrical Installation Certificates.
- Produce and complete O\&M documentation for client handover.
- Review project P\&L and update project files on close\-out.
- Contribute to forecasting by breaking down secured pipeline into invoicing stage timelines.
Essential:
- Proven experience managing commercial Solar PV projects end\-to\-end.
- Strong understanding of DNO processes, MCS requirements, and grid connection procedures.
- Solid knowledge of H\&S legislation and CDM 2015 compliance(Not essential).
- Experience producing or reviewing RAMS, CPPs, and EICs.
- Confident using project management or job management software (SimPRO experience advantageous).
- Financially aware — comfortable managing project budgets and reading P\&L and claim schedules.
- Excellent communication skills; able to manage client, contractor, and internal relationships simultaneously.
- Electrical background or NVQ in Electrical/Renewable Energy installations.
- Experience working within MCS or NICEIC accredited businesses.
- Familiarity with commercial rooftop and/or ground\-mount solar PV systems.
- Previous experience in a directly employed contractor environment.
