Role Description

Working within Cappfinity’s Engineering function and reporting to a Software Development Team Leader, the Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for improving the quality of Cappfinity’s software products through hands\-on testing, the definition of test scenarios, the identification of bugs and test automation. The Quality Assurance Engineer will be purposeful about what to test, how to test it and what value each type of testing adds.

The Quality Assurance Engineer will quickly become an expert in Cappfinity’s software, able to support their team with expert functional knowledge, to guide requirements, and to suggest improvements to user experiences.

The Quality Assurance Engineer will contribute to a suite of automated end\-to\-end tests, using test automation to improve timeliness, reliability and repeatability where appropriate.

Duties and Key Responsibilities


  • Software testing to verify new functionality meets requirements, verify existing software is operating as expected, and to identify bugs. This will include:

  • Manual testing.

  • Writing automated end\-to\-end web tests. Currently this is done with Playwright and TypeScript, but the technology will evolve over time.

  • Exploratory testing of API endpoints.

  • Identification and raising of improvements to software functionality and quality.

  • Raising of high\-quality bug reports and identifying their priority.

  • Identification of test scenarios.

  • Definition of approach to testing assigned software products; what type of testing to do, when and why?

  • Functional expert in assigned software products.

  • Contribute to requirements being of the highest quality through expert functional knowledge.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of team’s processes.

  • Collaborate daily with team members and colleagues from the wider business, especially expert business users of Cappfinity applications and Quality Assurance Engineers in other Engineering teams.

The ideal candidate will be


  • Experienced and highly competent in testing software, especially web applications, with a minimum of 2 years in a dedicated software testing role.

  • Experienced and competent in determining what to test and why throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Experienced working as a Quality Assurance Engineer or Software Tester in a team, working alongside Software Developers every day.

  • Detailed and thorough in their approach to work.

  • Inquisitive in nature and quick to learn, especially with respect to software functionality.

  • Skilled in their written work, especially for bug reporting.

  • Skilled to an intermediate level in SQL query writing.

  • Capable in end\-to\-end web UI testing.

  • Capable in testing web service APIs using relevant tools.

  • Experienced working within an Agile software development environment.

  • An excellent communicator and collaborator, especially when working in a distributed / remote team.

  • Committed to continuous learning and able to pick up new technologies \& concepts quickly.

  • Highly capable and an adaptable technical problem solver.

  • Friendly, helpful, and approachable.
