Birmingham City Council is committed to supporting safe journeys to and from school for children and families across the city. Our School Crossing Patrol Service plays a vital role in local communities, ensuring pupils can cross safely and confidently at busy roads near schools.
We’re looking for an Assistant School Crossing Patrol Manager to help lead and manage the daily operations of this essential frontline service.
You’ll work closely with School Crossing Patrol Supervisors and Patrol Wardens, ensuring services are effectively coordinated, legislative requirements are met, and high\-priority sites remain operational wherever possible.

We’re looking for someone who brings…
- Strong operational leadership experience – you’ve managed frontline or lone\-working staff within a busy service environment.
- Excellent people management skills – with experience supporting performance, wellbeing, attendance management, and staff development.
- A customer\-focused approach – able to communicate professionally with schools, parents, councillors, MPs, and members of the public.
- Sound organisational skills – able to prioritise workloads, manage emergencies, and coordinate staffing effectively.
- Confidence working with policies and procedures – including HR processes, safeguarding requirements, and statutory guidelines.
- Strong IT and administrative skills – able to maintain accurate records and use systems such as Oracle and other databases effectively.
- A proactive and collaborative attitude – someone who uses initiative and works positively with colleagues and stakeholders.
- A commitment to safety and compliance – with an understanding of Health \& Safety responsibilities and Road Safety best practice.
- Full UK Driving Licence and flexibility to travel around the city
