Role Title: Health Care Assistant
Location: Swords, Dublin
Contract: Full time
Duration: Fixed Term (9 months)

Vhi Health \& Wellbeing DAC currently has a part time fixed term (9 months) role in our Urgent Care Clinic for the position of Health Care Assistant based in Swords, Dublin.
The Health Care Assistant supports the day\-to\-day activities of VHI Health \& Wellbeing services, working on a rota under the supervision of Nursing Staff, who determine patient care duties.They must maintain patient confidentiality, work closely with patients and families to provide basic care, and assist Nursing Staff in delivering patient care under Clinical Nurse Managers and Staff Nurses, including nursing care, associated duties, and general clinical tasks relevant to the service area.

What you will do (Full Job spec is available upon request):
  • Decontaminate equipment, manage calls/enquiries, support and escort patients, deliver samples, assist during consultations, and undertake required training.

  • Maintain a clean, safe environment and ensure all care areas are stocked in line with Infection Control standards.

  • Assist with patient care, mobility, transfers, positioning, safety, and exercises, ensuring comfort and escorting patients as required.

  • Report patient changes, incidents, and queries; ensure documentation is countersigned; give and receive feedback.

  • Complete cleaning schedules, assist with clerical duties, maintain equipment, waste disposal, supplies, and safe environments.

  • Report faults/incidents, comply with policies, support patient needs (belongings, first aid, information), and perform assigned duties.

  • Develop skills in ECGs, vital signs, procedures, urinalysis, and patient weight checks.

  • All staff must comply with legislative and VHI H\&W quality, safety, and risk requirements, participate in audits, evaluations, and improvement initiatives aligned with national standards.

  • All staff must follow hygiene standards to maintain a clean, safe environment and prevent infection, with managers accountable for best practice.

  • Mandatory training includes hand hygiene every 2 years and annual sharps awareness.
What you will need to be successful:
  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification.

  • FETAC Level 5 or equivalent qualification.

  • 2 years previous Acute/Community Hospital Experience.

  • A nursing Certificate (from another country) but recognised by QQI to be at FETAC Level 5\.

  • Knowledge and understanding of hygiene and cleaning standards.

  • Experience working within a Urgent Care/ Emergency Department setting.

  • Ability to build strong communication networks, lead within scope, and drive change while maintaining service continuity.

  • Experience engaging healthcare organisations and multidisciplinary teams, with strong influencing, negotiation, and collaboration skills.

  • Capability to analyse complex information, anticipate issues, and make timely, informed decisions within governance frameworks.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build networks and deliver results through collaboration and influence.

  • Demonstrate alignment with the Vhi Values.
