Job Overview

Hereford Heating is looking for an experienced, reliable and customer\-focused Gas Service \& Installation Engineer to join our growing engineering team.

This is a varied role for an engineer who takes pride in their workmanship, enjoys fault\-finding and problem\-solving, and is confident carrying out heating installations, servicing, maintenance and repairs.

You will work across domestic heating systems, carrying out boiler installations, servicing, breakdowns and repairs, with opportunities to develop your experience in renewable technologies, oil heating and a range of manufacturers.

You will work independently on your own jobs while also being part of a wider engineering team, with support available whenever technical or operational advice is required.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, servicing, repairing and maintaining domestic gas heating systems in accordance with current legislation, regulations and industry standards.

  • Carrying out domestic boiler installations, including associated heating and plumbing works.

  • Completing boiler servicing, breakdowns, fault\-finding and general heating maintenance.

  • Working on domestic heating and plumbing systems and identifying issues effectively.

  • Carrying out installation and replacement works to a high standard, ensuring systems are safe, compliant and correctly commissioned.

  • Working with renewable heating technologies where appropriately trained and experienced.

  • Liaising with manufacturers and technical support teams when required.

  • Completing installation, commissioning, service and job documentation accurately.

  • Providing clear information and recommendations to customers and the office following visits.

  • Completing work safely and professionally within occupied residential and commercial properties, while minimising disruption to customers.

  • Maintaining van stock levels in line with company procedures and daily usage.

  • Taking responsibility for the quality and completion of your work.

  • Providing excellent customer service and maintaining positive relationships with customers and clients.

  • Working independently while contributing positively to the wider engineering team.

  • Keeping up to date with changes to legislation, regulations, standards and heating technology.

  • Participating in the company's on\-call rota for emergency out\-of\-hours cover.
Essential Gas Qualifications

Applicants must hold the following current qualifications as a minimum:

  • CCN1 – Core Domestic Gas Safety

  • CENWAT – Domestic Natural Gas Boilers \& Water Heaters

  • CKR1 – Domestic Cookers

  • HTR1 – Domestic Gas Fires

  • CPA1 – Combustion Performance Analysis
Additional gas qualifications and installation experience are desirable.

Installation Experience

Experience of domestic heating installation is an important part of this role. Ideally, you will have experience with:

  • Domestic boiler installations and replacements.

  • Heating system alterations and upgrades.

  • Associated plumbing and heating works.

  • Boiler commissioning and handover.

  • Working from installation plans, specifications and manufacturer instructions.

  • Completing installation paperwork and certification accurately.

  • Working within customers' homes while maintaining a clean and professional working environment.
Experience with renewable heating installations would also be beneficial.

Oil \& Renewable Experience

Experience in oil heating and/or renewable technologies would be beneficial but is not essential.

Oil

Applicants with oil experience should ideally hold current:

  • OFTEC 101 – Domestic Oil\-Fired Appliances

  • OFTEC 105 – Domestic Oil Storage
Renewables

Experience and/or qualifications in technologies such as:

  • Air source heat pumps

  • Ground source heat pumps

  • Other renewable heating systems
Manufacturer\-specific training and MCS\-related qualifications are desirable.

  • Professional and confident when dealing with customers in their homes.

  • Friendly, approachable and committed to providing excellent customer service.

  • Able to communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, manufacturers and technical support teams.

  • Reliable, organised and willing to take ownership of their work.

  • Comfortable working as part of a wider engineering team.

  • Flexible and willing to support the business during periods of increased demand.

  • Committed to maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and workmanship.
A minimum of 2 years' relevant heating installation, servicing and maintenance experience is preferred.

A full UK driving licence is essential. Applicants must have no more than 6 penalty points, subject to our vehicle insurance requirements.

A company van will be provided for the role.

On\-Call

You will participate in our winter out\-of\-hours on\-call rota to provide emergency support to customers.

On\-call hours are paid at a fixed fee plus the normal hourly rate, with the rota shared across the engineering team.
