The Role

An established specialist construction subcontractor is looking to recruit a Buyer to join its commercial and procurement team based in Loughton.

The business delivers high\-quality brickwork, blockwork and masonry packages across a range of residential, commercial, education and refurbishment projects throughout London and the South East.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction Buyer, or someone with relevant procurement experience looking to develop their career within a well\-established specialist subcontractor.

Key Responsibilities

• Procure materials for multiple live construction projects.


• Source and negotiate competitive prices with suppliers and manufacturers.


• Place and manage purchase orders, ensuring materials are delivered in line with project programmes.


• Procure bricks, blocks, mortar, masonry products, sundries and other associated construction materials.


• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new suppliers.


• Obtain and compare quotations to ensure best value, quality and availability.


• Liaise closely with Quantity Surveyors, Estimators, Contracts Managers and site teams to understand project requirements.


• Monitor lead times and identify potential supply issues before they impact site.


• Assist with material schedules and procurement planning.


• Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier information.


• Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or programme.


• Support the commercial team with procurement information when required.

• Previous experience within a Buyer, Assistant Buyer or construction procurement position.


• Experience working for a subcontractor, main contractor or construction materials supplier would be beneficial.


• Knowledge of brickwork, masonry or building materials would be particularly advantageous, although not essential.


• Strong negotiation and communication skills.


• Commercially aware with good attention to detail.


• Confident dealing with suppliers and internal project teams.


• Organised and able to manage procurement requirements across multiple projects simultaneously.


• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.


• Based within a reasonable commute of Brentwood, Essex.

You will be joining an established specialist contractor with a strong pipeline of projects across London and the South East. The role offers the opportunity to become an important part of the procurement and commercial function, working closely with experienced construction professionals on a variety of high\-profile projects.

Salary: Competitive / dependent on experience

Position: Permanent

Pay: £30,000\.00\-£60,000\.00 per year
