Associate Consultant (Finance, Data)

About the work

You'll help me with client delivery and template work across planning, reporting and data projects.

I run a financial consultancy boutique out of Rotterdam. I work with founders and CFOs on planning and reporting. You'll work directly with me, and I review everything before it reaches a client.

What you'll do

*Client delivery*

• Clean, structure and reconcile finance data into trusted datasets


• Build and update financial models (driver\-based and 3\-statement)


• Prepare monthly reporting packs, variance tables and first\-draft commentary


• Draft data models, account mappings and reporting structures


• Run refreshes, validation checks and trackers for open items

*Templates and practice building*

• Turn one\-off client work into reusable templates and checklists


• Maintain demo models and worked examples


• Write step\-by\-step playbooks for recurring work

*Research and business support*

• Do first\-pass research on industries, companies and benchmarks


• Draft proposal material, workplans and supporting slides


• Prepare meeting agendas, notes and follow\-up actions

What you bring

• 2 to 5 years in consulting, Big 4, audit, FP\&A or a finance role at a startup or scale\-up


• Solid accounting knowledge: P\&L, balance sheet, trial balance, GL


• Strong Excel, including Power Query and financial modeling


• Working SQL and basic data modeling knowledge (grain, keys, fact and dimension tables)


• Structured thinking: you restate the ask, list assumptions and ask questions early


• Comfort switching between very different tasks in the same week


• Clear written English


• Some overlap with Central European working hours

Nice to have

• Power BI


• Python or dbt


• Experience with multi\-entity groups


• Slide and proposal writing experience

Engagement

• Part\-time/Freelance, remote, ongoing


• Starting at around 20 hours per week, growing with client work


• Shortlisted candidates complete a short paid trial task

How to apply

• Messy data to reconciled dataset. You get a spreadsheet with cost centers as rows, months as columns, subtotals mixed in, and a total that's €4,200 below the trial balance. Walk me through how you'd structure it and find the difference.


• Model or data model. A client has two legal entities with different charts of accounts and wants one monthly management report with a simple forecast. Describe the tables or model structure you'd build and one check you'd put in place.


• Making it reusable. Pick a piece of work you've done more than once (a model, report, reconciliation or process). Show or describe how you turned it into something reusable, or how you would if you did it again.
