4Youth (South West) is a community youth organisation delivering safe, engaging and inclusive youth work across Melksham, Westbury and surrounding areas. We are looking for a confident and motivated Youth Work Manager to lead our youth work team, coordinate high‑quality sessions, and ensure young people’s voices shape our offer.
As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will oversee staff, rotas, safeguarding, quality assurance, monitoring and communication for all youth work programmes. You will work closely with the Director, TeenTalk Manager and Admin Manager to ensure smooth, safe and consistent delivery. This role is ideal for someone who is organised, values‑driven and passionate about creating positive opportunities for young people.
Key Duties
Leadership \& Staff Management
- Recruit, induct and train youth work staff
- Provide regular supervision, probation reviews and performance management
- Support HR compliance (DBS, training records, absence) with the Admin Manager
- Build a positive, supportive team culture
- Oversee planning and delivery of all youth work sessions
- Ensure sessions are safe, inclusive and shaped by young people’s views
- Carry out observations and provide constructive feedback
- Maintain accurate records (attendance, incidents, evaluations)
- Ensure resources and equipment are available
- Produce and maintain rotas for all youth work sessions
- Manage leave, sickness and absences
- Ensure facilities are left safe and in good order
- Provide occasional cover where required (within contracted hours or by agreement)
- Act as Deputy Safeguarding Lead (training provided)
- Support staff to identify, record and escalate concerns
- Promote safe practice and professional boundaries
- Ensure safeguarding documentation is accurate and timely
- Lead youth work social media content, scheduling and responses
- Ensure staff promote their own sessions using templates and guidance
- Maintain positive relationships with schools, councils and community partners
- Represent the organisation at essential meetings when required
- Ensure funded projects meet targets and reporting requirements
- Provide accurate monitoring information and case studies
- Support the Director with grant applications
- Attend essential funder meetings when required
- Youth or playwork qualification, or willingness to begin training within 2 months
- Experience working with young people in groups and individually
- Line management or mentoring experience
- Strong organisational skills and ability to plan sessions and activities
- Confident managing staff, rotas and budgets
- Able to build positive relationships with young people
- Creative in developing youth projects
- Values‑driven, self‑motivated and reliable
- Driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Willingness to train as Level 3 Deputy Safeguarding Lead
- First Aid, Health \& Safety, Child Protection or management qualifications
- Experience managing youth centres or contracts
- Experience providing staff training
- Experience working with public or voluntary sector partners
- Experience coordinating team‑wide social media activity
- Confident using social media for promotion and supporting staff with comms tasks
