Job Title: Waterparks Engineer

Location: Sandcastle Waterpark Blackpool Reports to: Facilities Manager Employment Type: Full\-time (may include weekends, evenings, and bank holidays)

Job Purpose

The Waterparks Engineer is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of waterpark attractions, plant, and associated systems. The role ensures all rides, pools, and water treatment systems operate efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with UK health, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operations \& Maintenance

• Carry out routine and reactive maintenance on waterpark rides, attractions, pumps, filters, valves, and control systems


• Maintain water treatment systems, including filtration, dosing, and disinfection equipment


• Carry out routine and reactive maintenance on all HVAC plant,


• Monitor the building management system to ensure the building is running at operational costs


• Help reduce the building carbon footprint and reduce plant running times to keep the business efficient


• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults


• Support ride commissioning, testing, and seasonal start\-up/shutdown procedures

• Ensure compliance with UK legislation and standards, including:


• Health and Safety at Work Act


• HSG179 (Managing Health \& Safety in Swimming Pools)


• PWTAG guidelines


• PUWER and LOLER (where applicable)


• Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspections and record findings accurately


• Support risk assessments, method statements, and incident investigations


• Ensure safe isolation procedures (LOTO) are followed during maintenance activities

• Monitor water quality parameters and respond to deviations


• Complete maintenance logs, service reports, and compliance documentation


• Report defects, hazards, and asset condition issues promptly

• Work closely with operations teams, and management to minimise downtime


• Supervise and coordinate external contractors when required

• Strong mechanical and electrical fault\-finding skills


• Knowledge of water treatment and pool plant systems


• Ability to work safely in a high\-risk, public\-facing environment


• Good problem\-solving and organisational skills


• Clear communication and accurate record\-keeping


• Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and peak seasons

Essential

• Engineering qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi\-skilled) or equivalent experience


• Experience working with pumps, motors, pipework, and control systems


• Good understanding of health and safety procedures

• Previous experience in waterparks, leisure centres, swimming pools, or theme parks


• Pool Plant Operator (PPO) qualification


• Electrical qualifications (e.g. 18th Edition)


• IPAF, PASMA, or confined space training

• Outdoor and indoor work in wet, humid, and noisy environments


• Manual handling and working at height may be required


• Use of PPE is mandatory
