Warehouse Manager
Zan Fish Wholesale is looking for an experienced Warehouse Manager to lead our warehouse and distribution operation and join the company's Senior Management Team (SMT).
This is a critical role within our business and we are looking for someone who understands what a modern, well\-run warehouse operation should look like.
The successful candidate will take ownership of warehouse performance and lead our team with a clear focus on efficiency, accuracy, stock control and delivering the right product to our customers at the right time.
This is not simply a warehouse supervisory position. We are looking for someone capable of understanding the entire operational flow of the business – from purchasing and goods\-in through picking, loading, routing and final delivery to our customers.
The Role
As Warehouse Manager, you will have day\-to\-day responsibility for the warehouse operation while working closely with our Buying, Sales and Transport teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
Warehouse Management \& Optimisation
- Take overall responsibility for the day\-to\-day warehouse operation.
- Continually review warehouse layout, product locations and working practices to improve efficiency.
- Develop clear processes for goods\-in, stock movement, picking, checking and dispatch.
- Ensure the warehouse operates in a clean, organised and structured manner.
- Identify inefficiencies and implement practical improvements rather than simply accepting existing ways of working.
- Ensure appropriate standards of health, safety and food handling are maintained.
- Work closely with our Buying team to maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Help identify purchasing requirements based on current stock, customer demand and expected sales.
- Monitor stock availability and highlight potential shortages before they affect customers.
- Maintain excellent stock accuracy and investigate discrepancies.
- Help manage stock rotation and minimise unnecessary waste, damage and obsolete stock.
- Ensure goods received are correctly checked, recorded and stored.
- Lead and manage our warehouse picking team.
- Organise workloads to ensure orders are picked accurately and completed within the required timescales.
- Establish and monitor clear standards for picking accuracy and productivity.
- Investigate picking errors and put corrective actions in place to prevent repeat issues.
- Ensure orders are properly checked and prepared for loading and delivery.
- Work alongside our Lead Driver to coordinate the driver team and daily delivery operation.
- Help ensure routes are practical, efficient and appropriate for the day's customer requirements.
- Support the management of driver performance and delivery standards.
- Ensure vehicles are loaded logically and accurately for their routes.
- Help resolve operational or delivery issues as they arise.
- Work closely with our Sales team when operational knowledge is required to resolve customer queries.
- Investigate customer comments or complaints relating to picking, stock, deliveries or product.
- Establish what went wrong, resolve the immediate problem and, importantly, identify how we prevent it happening again.
- Maintain a strong understanding that everything happening within the warehouse ultimately affects the service received by our customers.
We are specifically looking for someone who is excellent with IT systems and comfortable working within a modern, technology\-led warehouse environment.
You should be confident learning and using warehouse, stock, ordering and routing systems and, importantly, understanding how those systems interact with the physical warehouse operation.
We want someone who sees technology as a tool for improving accuracy, productivity and visibility – not as an administrative burden.
Strong general computer literacy is therefore essential for this position.
The Person We're Looking For
The right candidate is likely to have significant experience within warehousing, distribution, wholesale, foodservice or another fast\-moving operation.
You will need:
- Proven experience managing warehouse operations and leading teams.
- A strong understanding of stock control and inventory management.
- Experience improving warehouse processes and operational efficiency.
- Excellent attention to detail – accuracy is paramount in this role.
- Strong IT skills and confidence learning and using modern warehouse systems.
- The ability to understand data and use it to identify operational problems.
- Strong organisational and problem\-solving skills.
- The confidence to challenge inefficient processes and introduce better ways of working.
- The ability to communicate effectively with warehouse colleagues, drivers, salespeople, buyers and senior management.
- A hands\-on approach – we expect our managers to understand what is actually happening within their operation.
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Senior Management Responsibility
This position forms part of the Zan Fish Wholesale Senior Management Team.
We therefore expect the Warehouse Manager to contribute beyond the immediate warehouse operation – identifying opportunities, raising issues, contributing to business decisions and helping us continually improve the way Zan operates.
You will have genuine responsibility and the opportunity to influence how the operation develops.
