Full time \- permanent \- band 7\.

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and compassionate Band 7 Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to lead our dynamic team on 5 North Surgical Ward. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated senior nurse to provide visible, strong clinical leadership and to shape the delivery of high\-quality, patient\-centred surgical care.

5 North is a busy and diverse surgical ward caring for patients across a range of specialties, requiring excellent coordination, clinical expertise, and collaborative teamwork.

Main duties, tasks \& skills required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and clinical leadership to the ward team, acting as a role model for high standards of care

  • Ensure delivery of safe, effective, and patient\-focused care in line with Trust values and national standards

  • Lead on quality improvement initiatives, patient safety, and clinical governance

  • Manage staffing, workforce planning, and rostering to ensure safe skill mix

  • Support and develop staff through supervision, appraisal, and education

  • Maintain effective multidisciplinary working relationships across surgical services

  • Oversee resource management, including budget awareness and efficient use of resources

  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring dignity, respect, and equality are embedded in care delivery
About You
  • To succeed in this role, you will be:

  • A registered nurse (NMC) with significant post\-registration surgical experience

  • Demonstrably experienced at a senior Band 6 level or above

  • A confident leader with excellent communication, organisational, and decision\-making skills

  • Passionate about improving patient outcomes and staff experience

  • Experienced in managing change and leading teams through service improvements

  • Committed to delivering evidence\-based practice and continuous professional development

Qualifications

Essential

Professional adult nursing qualification and clinical knowledge acquired through training to diploma or degree level

PLUS post graduate learning or experience relevant to practice with demonstrable competence OR specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge or relevant practical experience.

Leadership/management training and/or experience.

Registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Experience

Essential

To be a clinical expert within own field of practice.

Ability to lead and manage a multi\-disciplinary team as well as mentor and educate junior staff.

Knowledge and application of clinical governance frameworks including Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), policy and procedure, audit and quality assurance.

Knowledge and application of safeguarding policies and procedures, particularly those related to vulnerable patients.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be able to problem solve, use own initiative and plan, organise and prioritise own and others' workload.

Evidence of continuous professional development and a willingness to participate in further training and education.

Competent IT skills.
