About the Client
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced Personal Assistant to support an intelligent and independent older lady living in sheltered accommodation in Cambridge.
Our client has led a rich and varied life, including roles as a children’s librarian in Canada, a member of staff at the BBC World Service in London, and an architectural librarian. She has strong Canadian roots and a lifelong love of learning, meaningful conversation, and intellectual engagement. She values one\-to\-one interaction and prefers this to group activities.
Due to dementia and recent health challenges, she now requires support with daily living, mobility, personal care, and overall wellbeing. Conversations may sometimes drift or become confused around time and place, and she may occasionally refer to an imagined husband. She responds best to gentle redirection rather than correction.
She remains thoughtful, independent, and strong\-willed, valuing her autonomy highly. Support should therefore be delivered with patience, emotional intelligence, and respect—offering encouragement and reassurance while enabling her to maintain as much independence as possible.
This role would suit someone who is kind, observant, and able to build a trusting relationship, while providing both practical assistance and engaging companionship.
