Contract Type: Full\-Time / Part\-Time Nights, Permanent and Bank
Salary (South West Benchmark 2026 FT contract): £33,930 per annum (DOE)
Hourly Rate Equivalent: £14\.50 per hour
Overtime Rate – Additional £1\.50 per hour.
Reporting to: Senior Support Worker / Deputy Manager / Registered Manager

Role Purpose
The Waking Night Support Worker is responsible for ensuring the safety, wellbeing and security of service users during overnight hours within a supported living service accommodating to service users living in their own homes. The role ensures continuity of care, risk management and safeguarding vigilance throughout the night.
The post holder promotes a calm, stable and safe environment, responding appropriately to any incidents, health concerns or behaviours of concern while maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with CQC standards.

Core Duties \& Responsibilities
1\. Overnight Care \& Monitoring
\- Conduct regular welfare checks in accordance with individual care plans.
\- Assist with personal care, which may include providing assistance with tasks such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and eating, while always promoting dignity, independence, and choice where required during the night.
\- Assist with daily living tasks and household responsibilities as required.
\- Promote dignity, respect and choice in all interactions.
\- Administer prescribed night\-time medication safely and accurately.
\- Support individuals experiencing anxiety, distress or sleep disruption.
\- Maintain a calm and reassuring presence throughout the shift.
2\. Safeguarding \& Risk Management
\- Maintain continuous safeguarding awareness during overnight hours.
\- Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns immediately.
\- Respond effectively to emergencies including medical incidents.
\- Follow risk assessments and night\-time safety protocols.
\- Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean and homely environment.
\- Ensure building security checks are completed and recorded.
3\. Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
\- Apply PBS strategies consistently to prevent escalation of behaviours.
\- Respond calmly and proportionately to behaviours of concern.
\- Contribute to incident reporting and reflective learning processes.
\- Promote least restrictive practice at all times.
4\. Documentation \& Compliance
\- Complete detailed night reports and handover documentation.
\- Record incidents accurately and in a timely manner.
\- Maintain medication records (MAR) in line with policy.
\- Ensure compliance with CQC Fundamental Standards and organisational procedures.
\- Participate in audits and quality monitoring processes.
5\. Environmental \& Property Responsibilities
\- Maintain a safe, clean and secure home environment.
\- Complete health \& safety checks during shift.
\- Ensure fire safety procedures are followed.
\- Prepare the home environment for daytime staff transition.
\- Report maintenance or environmental concerns promptly.
6\. Teamwork \& Professional Conduct
\- Participate in handovers and team meetings.
\- Engage in supervision and appraisal processes.
\- Maintain professional boundaries at all times.

\- Support workforce stability and positive team culture.

Qualifications
Essential:
\- Willingness to complete Care Certificate within probation period.
\- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Desirable:
\- Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Health \& Social Care (Adult Care).
\- Medication administration training.
\- Training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
Experience
Essential:
\- Experience working in a care or support environment (paid or voluntary).
\- Ability to work independently during night shifts.
\- Knowledge of safeguarding principles.
Desirable:
\- Experience supporting individuals with Learning Disabilities or autism.
\- Experience managing behaviours of concern.
\- Experience within supported living settings.
