Job Description: Cutter
Overview
The Factory Pattern Cutter \& Assembly Operative plays a key role in the production process by accurately cutting materials to specification and assembling components to create finished products. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Responsible to: Team Leader/ Factory Manager
Liaison with: Team Leader/ Factory Manager/ Office Manager/ Colleagues
Key Responsibilities
- Pattern Cutting
- Interpret technical drawings, templates, and production specifications.
- Measure, mark, and cut materials (such as fabric, foam, leather, plastics, or composites) using manual tools or cutting machinery.
- Ensure all cut components meet quality and dimensional standards.
- Maintain and organise cutting patterns, templates, and materials.
- Assembly Work
- Assemble cut components into finished or semi‑finished products following work instructions.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and machinery safely and effectively.
- Carry out basic fitting, bonding or fastening tasks depending on product type.
- Inspect assembled items for accuracy, quality, and consistency.
- Quality \& Production
- Follow quality control procedures and report defects or inconsistencies.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working area.
- Meet daily production targets while maintaining high standards.
- Work collaboratively with production supervisors and team members.
- Health \& Safety
- Adhere to all factory safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Operate machinery responsibly and report any hazards or equipment issues.
Skills \& Experience
- Experience in pattern cutting, manufacturing, upholstery, textiles, or similar production environments (preferred but not always required).
- Strong practical skills and good hand–eye coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings or templates.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of health and safety in a factory environment.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Good problem‑solving approach.
- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Pay: £10\.85\-£12\.71 per hour
