Technical Business Analyst
Job Introduction
As we continue our mission to make people and nature happy through re\-inventing chocolate, we're looking for a Technical Business Analyst to join our IT team at Hotel Chocolat.
This is a role with plenty of variety. We're a vertically integrated business, which means our technology needs to work across everything from chocolate manufacturing and supply chain logistics to our retail stores and online channels.
As our Technical Business Analyst, you'll sit at the heart of this, connecting our business teams with our technical delivery teams and helping to turn business ambition into practical, scalable technology solutions.
What you'll be doing
------------------------
You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to understand how things work today, where the opportunities are, and what we could do better tomorrow.
You'll:
- Engage with business stakeholders to understand objectives, processes and pain points.
- Lead workshops, interviews and discovery sessions to understand and capture requirements.
- Analyse current and future\-state processes, identifying opportunities for optimisation, automation and improvement.
- Translate business requirements into clear, detailed technical requirements for our IT delivery teams.
- Work closely with Solution Architects, Developers and Data teams to shape application and integration requirements.
- Create high\-quality documentation including user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, data mappings, interface specifications and system interaction diagrams.
- Analyse data sources, data quality and transformation requirements.
- Define and document integration requirements across systems, including APIs, ETL processes and event\-driven workflows.
- Work with technical teams to validate data mappings, payload structures and interface behaviours.
- Support system testing and UAT, helping to make sure what's delivered meets the original requirements.
- Support Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning and sprint reviews.
- Help prioritise requirements based on business value, complexity and dependencies.
- Provide ongoing clarification to developers and testers throughout delivery.
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation and ensure traceability from requirements through to delivery and testing.
- Help develop and embed best practice for Business Analysis across our Digital Transformation team.
---------------------
We're looking for someone who enjoys getting stuck into complex business problems and finding ways to turn them into clear, achievable technology solutions.
You'll have:
- Proven experience working as a Business Analyst within software development, IT or digital transformation.
- A strong understanding of application development lifecycles, system integrations and data structures.
- Experience translating complex business needs into clear technical requirements.
- Practical experience working with APIs, integrations and data mapping.
- Experience creating user stories, acceptance criteria and detailed requirements documentation.
- Experience with process modelling, such as BPMN or similar.
- The ability to communicate confidently with both technical and non\-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem\-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to navigate ambiguity, ask the right questions and bring structure to complex situations.
- A collaborative and proactive approach, with the confidence to influence stakeholders across different areas of the business.
- Agile delivery environments such as Scrum or Kanban.
- Cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
- Data governance, master data management or enterprise architecture.
- Automation, workflow digitisation or legacy system modernisation.
- Supporting complex integrations across multiple business systems.
We're not your average chocolate company.
We're vertically integrated, which means we're involved in much more of the chocolate journey than you might expect – from cacao growing and chocolate making through to our stores, websites and customer experience.
For our IT team, that creates a genuinely interesting technology environment. You'll have the opportunity to work across different areas of the business, understand how they connect, and help shape technology that makes a real difference to how we operate and grow.
You'll be based at Mint House, our support and head office in Royston, Hertfordshire, working as part of our collaborative IT team.
We're conveniently located just off the A505 and around a 10\-minute walk from Royston train station, with direct rail links to London King's Cross.
And, of course, there's chocolate.
You'll also receive:
- 50% employee discount on Hotel Chocolat products.
- 70% discount for you and your guests at our Rabot Estate hideaway in Saint Lucia.
- A range of company benefits.
- A collaborative, creative environment where you can make a real impact.
