Sterile Services Department Assistant
Location: Hereford County Hospital
Hours: 37\.5 hours per week
Pay: £12\.92 per hour
As a Sterile Services Department Assistant,you’ll play a vital role in supporting clinical teams across Hereford County Hospital. You’ll ensure that surgical instruments and medical equipment are cleaned, checked, packed and sterilized to the highest standards — helping clinicians deliver safe, effective care every day.
This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced role where accuracy, teamwork and attention to detail truly matter.
What You’ll Do
- Processing, checking and packing medical instruments
- Using correct manual handling techniques when lifting trays, theater bins and stock.
- Working in areas where exposure to bodily fluids can occur, always using the correct PPE.
- Operating sterilization equipment
- Using the T‑DOC tracking system to input new trays, track equipment and create barcodes.
- Receiving, storing and supplying consumables to wards and departments.
- Supporting ward top‑up services for sterile items.
- Maintaining a safe, clean working environment and reporting any defective equipment.
- Working as part of a supportive team to deliver a high‑quality service.
- Ability to follow instructions and work with precision.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and teamwork.
- Ability to stay calm and focused in a busy environment.
- Basic literacy and IT skills.
- High standards of personal hygiene.
- Willingness to undertake training and develop your skills.
