A great opportunity has arisen in our Trauma and Orthopaedic Fracture Clinic Department. Both adults and children come through the department with new injuries and reviews of patients. It is a fast flow busy environment with a variety of injuries.

We have excellent clinical outcomes providing Orthopaedic services that can be broken into the following sub specialties:

  • Foot and ankle surgery

  • Hip surgery

  • Knee surgery

  • Shoulder and elbow surgery

  • Wrist and hand surgery

  • Children (paediatric) surgery
The Fracture Clinic is part of the specialty of Trauma and Orthopaedics, our Fracture Clinic is forward facing providing outpatient care to Trauma and Orthopaedic patients. Care is provided to a very diverse range of patients including trauma, major trauma, elective Orthopaedics and plastic surgery patients. Our approach is multi\-disciplinary and no day is ever the same. We work closely with A\&E, Theatres, inpatient wards and primary care. The clinic works closely with the trauma nurse practitioners.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Staff Nurse with effective communication skills to join our friendly team.

Main duties of the job

To care for patients attending Trauma and Orthopaedic clinics at Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital.

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate, programmes of evidenced\-based

nursing care.

To assist with and carry out appropriate treatments.

Work collaboratively and co\-operatively with others to meet the needs of

patients and their families.

Able to work under own initiative and without direct supervision within responsibilities of the role Able to manage and prioritise own workload

As the Registered Nurse you will be required to maintain an awareness of the developments in the care and treatment of patients in order to be able to carry out duties competently and efficiently.

The role of a registered staff is to deliver care to patients following surgery and those patients who have injuries requiring wound care, application of casts and mobility aids.

Emergency care is provided at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital where we have well\-resourced day time operating theatres, 7 days a week. RBTH also has two dedicated inpatient wards for acute trauma, B22 and B24 each 23 bedded. B22 is our dedicated hip fracture ward.

We are one of the largest departments in the North West. We have a clinical team consisting of 21 Consultant Orthopaedic surgeons, Consultants specialized in care of the elderly, specialist trainees, middle grade doctors, advanced nurse practitioners, specialist nurses and junior doctors.

We provide hip fracture care for over 450 patients per year which makes us one of the busiest hospitals in the North West. We have consistently provided best practice in this field and achieved one of the highest percentages compared to national average as well as North West average.

The service runs on a Monday to Friday . Flexibility to work shift patterns to meet the needs of the clinic over 5 days. Work across different sites. Manual dexterity Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties.

The Trauma and Orthopaedic service is based across two sites, Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital.

Essential criteria

Registered Nurse

Current NMC Registration

Evidence of continuing professional development or reflective profile.

Desirable criteria

Experience of casting

Experience of Trauma and Orthopaedic nursing

Experience and knowledge of wound care management to include traumatic and postoperative wounds.
