Woods Furniture is an independent furniture retailer. Successfully trading for over a 150 years. We're a small, close\-knit team, and we care about well\-made furniture and looking after every customer from the first enquiry to the day their order arrives.

The role

We're looking for a hands\-on Senior Operations Manager to run everything behind the scenes: warehouse, delivery and logistics, customer support, and health and safety. You'll report directly to the Managing Director and be part of the senior team. It's a varied role that suits someone who's as comfortable on the warehouse floor as in a planning meeting, and who wants to shape how a growing independent business works.

What you'll be doing

• Warehouse: Run day\-to\-day warehouse operations, including goods in, storage, stock accuracy, picking and dispatch. Keep the space organised, efficient and able to handle large, heavy and fragile items.


• Logistics and delivery: Plan and manage deliveries, including our own vans and drivers, third\-party carriers and two\-person home delivery. Handle supplier inbound schedules, returns, and damaged or faulty goods.


• Customer support: Lead the customer support team. Make sure enquiries, delivery updates, complaints and aftercare are handled quickly, warmly and fairly, and use customer feedback to fix problems at the source.


• Health and safety: Own health and safety across the business. That covers risk assessments, safe manual handling, equipment and vehicle checks, training records, incident reporting (including RIDDOR) and keeping us compliant with current legislation.


• People: Lead, motivate and develop a team of around 15 people across warehouse, delivery and support, including rotas, training and performance.


• Improvement: Track key measures such as on\-time delivery, damage rates, stock accuracy and customer satisfaction. Find smarter ways of working, manage operational budgets and supplier relationships, and help us make better use of our systems.

• Proven experience in a senior operations role covering warehousing and logistics, ideally in furniture, homewares, retail or another bulky\-goods business


• Experience leading customer\-facing teams and a real commitment to great service


• Solid working knowledge of UK health and safety law and practice. An IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH qualification is desirable, or you're willing to work towards one


• A practical, organised and calm approach, and the ability to juggle priorities in a small business where no two days are the same


• Confidence with data and systems (stock, delivery planning, CRM or helpdesk tools)


• Strong communication skills and the ability to build good relationships with colleagues, suppliers and carriers


• A full UK driving licence
