As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager in the day\-to\-day operation of our Solo Placement Bungalows.
Alongside providing high\-quality care and support to young people, you will lead by example, support and develop members of the team, conduct staff supervisions and contribute to maintaining a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment where young people can achieve positive outcomes.
This role combines direct work with young people, leadership responsibilities and compliance duties, making it ideal for someone looking to progress within residential childcare and develop their management skills.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
- Delivering high\-quality care and support in line with individual care plans
- Leading shifts and supporting the smooth day\-to\-day running of the home
- Supporting the Registered Manager and Deputy Manager with the effective operation of the service
- Delegating tasks and responsibilities to Residential Support Workers where appropriate
- Providing guidance, mentoring and support to colleagues
- Supporting the induction and development of new staff
- Conducting staff supervisions in line with company policy
- Identifying training and development needs within the team
- Supporting the monitoring of staff performance and standards of practice
- Delivering and overseeing key work sessions
- Updating, reviewing and contributing to care plans, risk assessments and placement documentation
- Ensuring care plans remain accurate, relevant and reflective of each young person's needs and progress
- Maintaining high standards of record keeping and documentation
- Supporting education attendance and achievement
- Facilitating and supervising family contact
- Attending and contributing to care planning meetings, reviews and multi\-agency meetings
- Promoting safeguarding, health and safety and regulatory compliance
- Supporting the home to meet Children's Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements
- Responding appropriately to challenging situations and supporting young people during periods of crisis
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals to achieve the best outcomes for young people
Residential childcare can be one of the most rewarding careers, but it can also be one of the most challenging.
The young people we support have often experienced significant trauma and may present with complex emotional, behavioural and mental health needs. There will be times when young people are distressed, dysregulated or in crisis and require intensive support from staff.
As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will be expected to remain calm and professional during challenging situations, support colleagues through difficult incidents and help maintain a consistent approach across the team.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about achieving positive outcomes for young people, confident in leading by example and committed to supporting the development of others.
Essential Requirements
- Aged 22 or over in line with Ofsted regulations
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, Children and Young People's Workforce or equivalent
- Experience working within a children's residential setting
- Experience leading shifts or supporting colleagues within a residential childcare environment
- Experience updating, reviewing or contributing to care plans, risk assessments and residential childcare documentation
- Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Experience conducting staff supervisions
- Experience supporting staff development and mentoring colleagues
- Knowledge of Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards
- Experience contributing to care planning meetings and multi\-agency reviews
- Experience working within a solo placement or specialist residential childcare setting
- Understanding of therapeutic and trauma\-informed approaches
- Level 5 qualification in Residential Childcare or Leadership and Management, or willingness to work towards
