This is a full\-time, role\-based at either our Luton or Kettering office. The successful candidate will oversee a portfolio of clients, manage end\-to\-end accounting processes, and ensure full compliance with financial regulations — while also taking a leading role in the growth of our management accounting offering.
This is not a role for someone looking to stand still. We are building something, and we want this person at the centre of it.
Key Responsibilities
Client Portfolio \& Compliance
- Oversee and manage a varied client portfolio, acting as the primary point of contact for senior\-level relationships
- Preparation and review of year\-end statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Preparation and submission of corporation tax returns (CT600\) and self\-assessment tax returns
- Management of VAT returns across multiple clients with full MTD compliance
- Ensure clients remain fully compliant with all relevant financial regulations and HMRC obligations
- Preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts to a consistently high standard
- Producing detailed budgets and forecasts aligned with each client's business goals
- Variance analysis, KPI tracking, and clear narrative commentary for management and board\-level reporting
- Cash flow modelling, financial projections, and scenario planning to support client strategic decision\-making
- Go beyond the numbers — provide clients with meaningful financial insight and advice that supports their growth
- Prepare detailed budget plans and financial strategies tailored to individual business needs
- Present and communicate financial data clearly to non\-finance business owners and stakeholders
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work of junior and semi\-senior team members
- Take ownership of the management accounts service line as it grows, with a clear pathway to leading the division
- Contribute to workflow planning, capacity management, and continuous process improvement
- Support business development — identifying opportunities to expand service offerings and deepen client value
- Work closely with the Directors and Partners to evolve the practice structure toward a Practice Manager model
Essential
- Minimum 7 years' experience working within an accountancy practice — this is a firm requirement
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or qualified by substantial demonstrable experience at senior level)
- Extensive, hands\-on experience in management accounts — including budgeting, forecasting, and monthly/quarterly reporting packs
- Strong technical grounding in year\-end statutory accounts preparation and review
- Proven competency across corporation tax, self\-assessment, and VAT
- Confident communicator with the ability to deliver financial insight and strategic advice to clients at all levels
- Proven experience building and managing strong, long\-term client relationships
- Practice experience across a diverse client portfolio spanning multiple industries and business sizes
- Proficiency with Xero, QuickBooks, IRIS, or CCH
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring junior members of an accounts team
- Familiarity with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements and implementation
- Commercial awareness and a genuine appetite for growing and leading a service division
