  • 0\.6 contract considered for the right candidateStart Date: September 2026About the RoleTAO Independent School is seeking a nurturing, relational and highly motivated SENDCO to join our specialist independent school for pupils with SEND, SEMH and emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA).This is a unique opportunity to help shape a new specialist school from the ground up whilst benefiting from significant support structures already in place.The school will initially open with just eight pupils on roll, allowing for highly personalised provision, meaningful relationships and a genuine opportunity to know every child and family well.Unlike many SENDCO positions, this role remains hands\-on and pupil\-focused. The successful candidate will continue to work directly with children, support teaching and learning, and help shape provision through daily practice rather than purely administrative oversight.Who We Are Looking ForWe are looking for somebody who:

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate SEND provision across the school

  • Support the implementation of EHCP outcomes

  • Monitor pupil progress, attendance and wellbeing

  • Liaise with parents, carers and external agencies

  • Support staff with adaptive teaching and SEND strategies

  • Contribute to safeguarding and pastoral support systems

  • Support annual reviews and SEND documentation

  • Help develop and maintain high\-quality inclusive practice

  • Continue to work directly with pupils and families
Support Available

This role is intentionally designed to be highly supported.

The successful candidate will receive ongoing support from:

  • Proprietor

  • Operations Manager

  • External educational consultants

  • Independent School Registration specialists

  • External HMI support where required
Our intention is to provide challenge, guidance and support without being intrusive or imposing.

Many of the systems, policies, procedures, quality assurance frameworks and operational structures are already established, allowing the successful candidate to focus on children, families and provision rather than building systems from scratch.

Essential Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Primary teaching experience

  • Strong understanding of SEND and inclusive practice

  • Excellent communication and relationship\-building skills

  • Commitment to safeguarding and child\-centred practice
Desirable
  • SENDCO qualification or willingness to undertake the qualification

  • SEMH, SEND or specialist provision experience

  • Trauma\-informed practice experience

  • Outdoor learning experience or interest

  • Experience supporting pupils with EBSA
