Hayer Education Recruitment are working in partnership to recruit a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people and looking to build a long\-term career in School/SEND education.
The school supports pupils aged 4–11 and 12\-16 with Special Educational Needs and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. It offers a structured, nurturing learning environment, with small class sizes, strong pastoral care and an experienced support team focused on helping students rebuild confidence and re\-engage with education.
This role is ideal for individuals who are resilient, calm under pressure and committed to making a positive impact on the lives of young people who require additional support.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally. You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to create a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting students with SEMH and additional SEN needs in the classroom
- Providing 1:1 and small group support to aid learning and emotional development
- Using effective behaviour management and de\-escalation strategies
- Implementing individual behaviour plans and risk assessments
- Encouraging positive behaviour, wellbeing and engagement with learning
- Supporting pupils to develop confidence, self\-regulation and social skills
- Working collaboratively with staff to maintain safeguarding and welfare standards
We are looking for individuals who are patient, resilient and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs. This role would particularly suit candidates looking to develop a career in SEND, education, psychology or youth support.
You may have previous experience working with SEMH or SEN pupils, or possess transferable skills from roles involving behaviour support, youth work, coaching or care.
We welcome applications from candidates who may have:
- Experience within SEMH, SEN, PRU or alternative provision settings
- Knowledge of trauma\-informed approaches or restorative practice
- Strong behaviour management and relationship\-building skills
- A relevant degree (Psychology, Education, Youth Work, Criminology, etc.)
- Experience working with young people in education, care or community settings
- A desire to build a long\-term career supporting SEND pupils
