Harmony Oaks Care Ltd is looking for caring, committed and resilient Support Workers to join our team at Oaks Haven, our children's residential home in Hornchurch.
Oaks Haven provides a safe, nurturing and structured environment for children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD), trauma and complex needs.
We are looking for people who understand that residential childcare is about much more than supervision. It is about building trust, providing consistency, creating positive relationships and helping a young person feel safe, valued and able to progress.
As a Support Worker, you will play an important role in providing high\-quality direct care and supporting the day\-to\-day running of the home. You will work closely with the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, Senior Support Workers and wider care team to ensure that the young person receives safe, consistent and individualised support.
You will be expected to be a positive role model and contribute to a culture in which children are listened to, respected, protected and supported to achieve positive outcomes.
About the Role
You will support the day\-to\-day care and development of the young person, working in accordance with their care plans, risk assessments, behaviour\-support strategies and individual needs.
Your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
- Providing safe, compassionate, consistent and individualised care to the young person.
- Building positive, trusting and professional relationships based on respect, boundaries and consistency.
- Using trauma\-informed, child\-centred and therapeutic approaches in your practice.
- Supporting the young person with their daily routines, personal development, independence and life skills.
- Supporting education, health appointments, activities, family relationships and community engagement.
- Undertaking meaningful key\-work sessions and direct\-work activities as directed.
- Promoting the children’s wishes, feelings, choices and participation in decisions affecting their life.
- Following care plans, placement plans, risk assessments and behaviour\-support strategies consistently.
- Recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns, incidents and changes in risk.
- Supporting the young person during periods of distress, emotional dysregulation or challenging behaviour using appropriate de\-escalation and positive behaviour\-support approaches.
- Supporting medication administration where trained, authorised and assessed as competent.
- Completing accurate and timely daily records, handovers, incident reports and other required documentation.
- Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
- Communicating effectively with colleagues and contributing positively to handovers and team discussions.
- Supporting the maintenance of a safe, clean, welcoming and positive home environment.
- Working collaboratively with Senior Support Workers, managers and other professionals involved in the young person's care.
- Attending supervision, training, team meetings and other meetings relevant to your role.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- At least one year of previous experience working with children or young people, preferably within residential childcare, social care, education or a related setting.
- Experience or understanding of supporting children or young people with EBD, trauma, attachment difficulties or complex needs.
- Strong safeguarding awareness and an understanding of professional boundaries.
- The ability to remain calm, patient, consistent and professional during challenging situations.
- An understanding of positive behaviour support, de\-escalation and relationship\-based practice.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to maintain accurate and professional records.
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.
- The ability to work positively as part of a team and follow direction from senior staff and managers.
- A willingness to learn, develop and complete required training.
Qualifications \& Training
Applicants must:
- Hold a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (England) or an equivalent relevant qualification. Applicants who do not currently hold a Level 3 qualification may be considered where appropriate, but must be willing and able to work towards and successfully complete the required qualification within the applicable regulatory timeframe.
- Have relevant training and sound knowledge of safeguarding children, including safeguarding procedures and good practice within children’s residential care.
- Have relevant knowledge and training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), trauma\-informed practice, de\-escalation and supporting children with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

Working Pattern
The role requires flexibility to meet the needs of the home and the children we support.
This may include:
Day shifts \| Evening shifts \| Weekends \| Bank Holidays \| Sleep\-ins \| Waking nights where required
The rota will be arranged according to the needs of the service and the individual care arrangements of the child.
