An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dedicated and specialised research nursing team as a Senior Band 7 nurse providing leadership and expertise within the field of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Research. The post holder will manage and coordinate clinical research projects involving patients diagnosed with MND.

As a key part of the team, the Research Sister/Charge Nurse will assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients in line with clinical trial protocols, laboratory manuals and all relevant regulatory standards.

The Research Sister/Charge Nurse will work as part of the larger research team to develop and deliver recruitment targets and strategies to meet these targets. The post holder will ensure that research safeguards are in place to protect the well\-being of research participants and that research is conducted within the Regulatory Framework. As part of the co\-ordination responsibilities the post holder will be expected to represent the MND team at national and international meetings.

The post holder must possess excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills alongside a vision for service development.

The post holder will work in close liaison with the Professors, Research Matron and the wider research team ensuring the provision of high quality care within the resources available.

An informal visit is recommended.

To ensure that everyone diagnosed with MND has access to the support and opportunity to take part in clinical research.

To support people with MND to navigate the research trial process, providing information about current MND clinical research and trials, identifying people living with MND who are eligible for trials explaining what is involved, and supporting people with their application and ongoing involvement in trials.

Proactively lead and develop a MND person centred research service as part of a MND research nurse network.

To drive collaborative opportunities within the MDT team. Working closely with care coordinators and other MDT members, emphasising seamless coordination, shared goals, and effective communication across departments to enhance care delivery, and ensure alignment with the latest research insights and objectives.

To champion the diverse needs of people living with MND by working in a manner that facilitates inclusion and collaboration, within and beyond the MND Association. Responsibilities include coordination of care of people living with MND on trials and studies, ensuring effective communication between Care Centre / Networks and research teams.

Working in partnership with The University of Sheffield’s department of neuroscience, Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (STH) receives National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) funding to support a wide and varied portfolio of research activity. It is the host for NIHR Clinical Research Network; Yorkshire and Humber (CRN; Y\&H) and receives funding to support early phase, exploratory clinical trial activity facilitated through the Sheffield NIHR Clinical Research Facility (CRF), as well as a number of other awards including Devices for Dignity and NIHR CLAHRC.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 4 years due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.
