Research Nurse

We require a nurse with (A\&E / ITU) experience to undertake the role of a research nurse within the Acute Medicine Cluster . Experience in research would be advantageous but not essential.

The Research Nurse will work collaboratively within a team working on both commercial and non\-commercial research studies within a flexible research workforce covering a 7 day 24 hour service.

The post holder holds responsibility for supporting the research delivery team in the co\-ordination, recruitment, care and monitoring of research subjects at the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The care of research subjects is carried out in accordance with current research governance and legislation.

The post holder will work closely with the senior research nurses and clinical lead in the completion of comprehensive documentation required by the Ethics Committees – local and national, for ethical review and approval of the research study.

1\. The Research Nurse will support programmes for recruitment, enrolment, screening and retention of research subjects in accordance with protocol and International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) Good Clinical Practice standards. 2\. The Research Nurse will support the team in the planning and implementation of protocols in accordance with research parameters as set out by the Chief and Principal Investigators. 3\. The Research Nurse will contribute to appropriate data collection systems for patient data and monitoring data, in accordance with the research protocol. 4\. The Research Nurse maintains complete source documentation and Site Investigators File for Chief and Principal Investigators and Regulatory Bodies. 5\. The Research Nurse maintains liaison on a regular basis with the Chief Investigator for the duration of the study. In addition he/she may be required to attend ongoing presentations and lectures to maintain knowledge base of developments within the field of the Study. 6\. The Research Nurse collaborates with Investigators, Regulatory Bodies and Ancillary departments. 7\. The Research Nurse maintains good liaison with research subjects using excellent communication skills by telephone or face to face, in either hospital or community setting, keeping documented evidence of the same. 8\. The Research Nurse represents and promotes the objectives of the research study to internal/external constituencies appropriately.

1\. To have a good knowledge of clinical research, underpinned by degree level education and ICH Good Clinical Practice Qualifications.

2\. To work within professional Guidelines relating to Code of Conduct, Confidentiality, Accountability and Scope of Professional Practice as appropriate.

3\. To provide a high standard of evidence based care to patients whilst attending patients in the community and within the hospital.

4\. To work as part of the Trust research delivery team with a flexible approach to workload schedules .

5\. To facilitate effective communication: written, verbal and electronic.

6 To act as the patient’s advocate

7\. To liaise with the multidisciplinary team as appropriate in the delivery of support and care to the patients.

8\. To support the planning, implementation and development of protocols in accordance with research parameters as set out by the Chief and Principal Investigators.

9\. To have strong interpersonal communication skills, having the ability to communicate with empathy in potential sensitive, controversial situations with patients who have given written consent to participate in the trial to become research subjects.

10\. Actively seeks to promote health by providing evidence based information in a sensitive, empathetic manner.

11\. To have a personal duty of care in relation to the care and working knowledge of the equipment required for the research study.

12\. To maintain accurate records in line with professional guidelines and local policy using paper based and electronic systems.

13\. Ensure that monitoring and investigations required for the study are carried out within the time schedules documented and be able to work to tight deadlines with restricted time constraints.

14\. Be able to propose changes within own area of practice and represent the research team or service.

15\. To interpret medical records in order to judge whether a patient is suitable for a particular study.

16\. To provide evidence of recent interest/experience in research and Continuing Practice Development.

17\. Attend regular Research and Development departmental meetings and National Institute for Health Research meetings as required.

18\. To participate fully in Divisional, Directorate and Speciality meetings, teaching programmes etc.
