Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations and seeks to appoint a Project Officer River Restoration (East).
As the catchment host for the Yorkshire Derwent Catchment Partnership (YDCP), this is an exciting opportunity to join the team delivering river and species recovery projects, Natural Flood Management (NFM), sediment reduction, and lowland peat restoration.
Driving forward new projects to deliver our blueprint for nature’s recovery including restoration on the lower Derwent SSSI, you’ll remove barriers to fish migration through the Great Yorkshire Rivers Partnership, restore the chalk\-fed streams of the eastern Derwent and investigate re\-connecting our floodplains for burbot reintroduction.
We’d love to hear from you if you have experience of working in all aspects of river restoration, including managing consultants (delivering feasibility and designs), appointing and overseeing contractors for delivery, and identifying funding. You will enjoy a mix of being outdoors engaging with landowners, surveying and monitoring and desk\-based work including QGiS, planning work, writing funding bids, representing YDCP/YWT and report writing.
Proficient in IT, you’ll have the ability to communicate with enthusiasm, tact and diplomacy, both in writing and verbally. You’ll work with estates, farmers, local and government agencies, eNGOs and the public, so organisation, a common\-sense approach to problem solving and the ability to quickly respond to changing circumstances are essential for success in this role. A full UK driving licence will be essential for travelling to remote locations.
