Job Summary

The Production Planning Co\-ordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating production planning activities across the Foundry and its different production processes. Reporting to the Planning Manager, the role will ensure that production is planned and controlled effectively to meet customer demand, production requirements, quality standards and agreed delivery timescales.

The role will oversee planning activity across multiple processes within the Foundry and provide day\-to\-day direction, support and prioritisation to members of the planning team who report into the role. The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Operations, Procurement, Sales, Customer Service, Quality and other relevant departments to ensure plans are achievable, communicated and continually adjusted in response to changing business requirements.

The role requires a practical, analytical and commercially aware approach, with the ability to identify constraints, resolve planning issues, manage competing priorities and escalate risks appropriately to the Planning Manager.

(The employee will willingly undertake, upon request, any other task they are able to perform. Elements of the role may vary as new technology, procedures and equipment are introduced.)

Responsibilities

Production Planning, Control and Scheduling

Oversee production planning across the Foundry, covering multiple processes and production areas.

Develop, coordinate and maintain production schedules to meet customer demand, production capacity and required delivery dates.

Ensure planning priorities are clearly communicated to relevant production and operational teams.

Monitor production progress against plan and proactively identify delays, constraints, capacity issues and potential delivery risks.

Adjust plans and priorities in response to changing customer requirements, production performance, material availability and operational constraints.

Coordinate the day\-to\-day workload of planning personnel reporting into the role, providing direction, support and prioritisation as required.

Work with the Planning Manager to develop and improve planning processes, controls and capacity planning across the Foundry.

Escalate significant planning risks, capacity constraints and delivery concerns to the Planning Manager with appropriate recommendations.

Inventory and Material Planning

Ensure required raw materials, components and other production requirements are available in line with the production plan.

Work closely with Procurement and Stores/Warehouse to identify shortages, delayed materials and potential production constraints.

Monitor inventory levels and planning requirements to support production without unnecessary overstocking.

Support accurate inventory records and investigate discrepancies where required.

Coordination and Communication

Work closely with Foundry Management and Production to ensure plans are realistic, achievable and aligned with available capacity.

Collaborate with Procurement, Sales and Customer Service to align production plans with customer orders and priorities.

Communicate changes to production schedules promptly and ensure affected stakeholders understand revised priorities.

Liaise with Quality and other functions where production issues may affect delivery, quality or process requirements.

Provide clear updates to the Planning Manager and relevant stakeholders on production status, risks and recovery actions.

People Management and Team Coordination

Provide day\-to\-day leadership, direction and support to planning personnel reporting into the role.

Allocate and prioritise planning activities to ensure effective coverage across Foundry processes.

Monitor team workload, performance and completion of planning activities, escalating issues to the Planning Manager where appropriate.

Support the development, training and capability of planning team members.

Promote consistent planning standards, processes and communication across the team.

Lead by example, promoting a collaborative, accountable and solutions\-focused approach.

Efficiency, Capacity and Cost Control

Identify opportunities to improve production planning, scheduling and utilisation of available capacity.

Analyse production data to identify bottlenecks, recurring issues and opportunities for improvement.

Support initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce downtime and minimise unnecessary costs or delays

Work with operational teams to identify practical solutions to planning constraints.

Support the implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives where appropriate.

Quality Assurance

Ensure production plans take account of relevant quality requirements, process controls and customer requirements.

Work with Quality and Production to address planning\-related issues that may affect product quality or delivery.

Ensure planning information and records are accurate and maintained in accordance with Company requirements.

Reporting and Documentation

Maintain accurate production schedules, planning records, capacity information and relevant system data.

Prepare and provide reports on production status, plan adherence, capacity, constraints and performance metrics.

Use planning and ERP systems effectively to maintain accurate and timely production information.

Analyse planning and production data using Excel and other relevant systems to support decision\-making.

Health and Safety

Comply with all Company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and safe systems of work.

Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of colleagues, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your actions.

Report all hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents and accidents promptly in accordance with Company procedures.

Support the maintenance of a safe, clean and organised working environment through good housekeeping standards (5S).

Ensure all purchasing activities support the Company's Health \& Safety objectives, including the procurement of compliant materials, equipment and services where applicable.

Challenge unsafe behaviours and promote a positive safety culture across the business.

Participate in Health \& Safety training, toolbox talks and any other mandatory training required for the role.

Comply with all relevant environmental procedures, including waste reduction and sustainable procurement initiatives where appropriate.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Strong Excel capability, including the ability to manipulate, analyse and report production and planning data

  • Proven experience as a Production Planner, Production Controller, Planning Coordinator or similar role within a manufacturing environment.

  • Planning across multiple manufacturing processes, preferably within a complex production environment.

  • Experience using production planning tools, ERP systems and relevant planning software.

  • Experience managing or coordinating planning across multiple manufacturing processes is essential.

  • Experience coordinating or supervising planning personnel is desirable.

  • Experience working closely with Production, Procurement, Sales, Customer Service and other operational functions.

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem\-solving abilities.

  • Strong production planning, prioritisation and scheduling capability.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with employees and managers at all levels.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.

  • Confident making decisions, identifying risks and escalating issues appropriately.

  • Practical, proactive and commercially aware approach.

  • Ability to lead, support and develop planning team members.
Desirable Experience
  • Knowledge of Aerospace operators.

  • Ideally from a manufacturing/engineering bias background.

  • Understanding of complex manufacturing processes and production constraints.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.

  • Experience with capacity planning, bottleneck analysis and continuous improvement.

  • Previous experience leading or supervising a planning team.
