Job Description

• To provide Geotechnical expertise to the company, reviewing and development of company systems and training and the mentoring of junior engineers.


• To provide support to project managers, who have ownership for the full project management of multiple projects concurrently, including managing staff and delegating tasks to ensure the achievement of all deliverables in a timely manner, financial management and budget control and attending site meetings where appropriate.


• Project management and ownership of standalone Geotechnical, Geoenvironmental and Foundation projects to ensure the achievement of all deliverables in a timely manner, including financial management and attending site/office meetings where appropriate.


• Responsible for inputting to Health and Safety and CDM issues arising on projects and take a lead role in the development of geotechnical engineering and ensure compliance with Legislation.


• Development of LSTC’s geoenvironmental procedures and practices.


• Monitor and undertake management of all planning activities, verification of all work undertaken ensuring compliance with company Quality Procedures


• To identify, manage and/or input to new project opportunities. Including preparation of tender costs and proposals, advising on timescales/lead times and likely deliverables required.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

Project Management

• Analyse client’s briefs and agree deliverable requirements. Liaise where necessary with clients to ensure satisfactory progress and quality.


• Responsible for the provision of planning and spatial awareness elements, and input into the geotechnical and geoenvironmental elements of projects, ensuring adherence to quality, time and budget, as well as relevant national policy and client specifications.


• Accept ownership of work to be done:

+ Manage the work undertaken by teams under your immediate direction \& control;
+ Co\-ordinate submission of reports, plans and designs.
+ Keep all records, supporting documentation necessary to substantiate company and personnel performance.

• Ensure all tasks and documentation are completed accurately and adhere to latest government guidance and/or specifications.


• + - Ensure adherence of all members of your teams to LSTC procedures and processes.


• Co\-ordinate and liaise with all other departments, disciplines, external agencies and authorities to ensure all geotechnical related work is in accordance with the clients agreed brief and programme.


• Ensure project reviews take place.


• Submit monthly work in progress reports.


• Monitoring project hours and costs against budgets

People Management and Staff Development

• Monitor and evaluate progress of others to build a high\-performing team in which each member has a clear understanding of their responsibilities and report to your line manager any issues arising from your evaluations.


• In consultation with other managers mentor all staff on your knowledge of geotechnical and/or geoenvironmental processes and procedures.


• In consultation with other managers, instruct, monitor and develop any LSTC personnel working on a scheme within which you are project managing to ensure the personnel are fit for purpose for the task being asked of them.


• Review and approval of Team timesheets and raising any issues directly with staff.


• Approval of Holidays.


• Deputise as/Lead the weekly/monthly Team meetings.


• Conduct staff reviews, complete necessary documentation and return information to your line manager.

Systems Development

• Development of the company’s geoenvironmental capability – including provision of training and review where necessary.


• Responsible for maintaining an up\-to\-date knowledge of geotechnical and geoenvironmental practice and regulations and the impact this has on the industry.

Quality Systems and Health \& Safety

• Checking geotechnical and geoenvironmental reporting.


• Production of all CDM documentation.


• Ensure the provision of deliverables that demonstrate all related work completed complies with the clients’ brief.

Other Responsibilities

• Identification and management of new tender opportunities.


• Carry out reasonable duties as directed by the Company.


• Willing to work at other LSTC or client offices as required.

Qualifications and experience:

Qualifications

• Preferably master’s degree in civil engineering, geology, geotechnical/geoenvironmental engineering or similar.


• Chartered Member of Professional Institution.


• Hold a valid UK Driving License (or license acceptable to our insurers).

Experience

• 10 years’ experience in geotechnical and/or geoenvironmental engineering and site investigation


• Advanced knowledge of relevant industry specific legislation.


• Knowledge/experience of working in OHL industry advantageous.


• Ability to understand and plan for conflicting requirements and meet challenging deadlines.


• Ability to interrelate own discipline areas with outputs from other engineering and none engineering disciplines to present overall suitable solutions mitigating risk in proposed solutions.


• Able to produce and check reports and design deliverables that are compliant with standards, specifications and accurately considering all available relevant information and knowledge.


• Management and delivery of large\-scale ground investigation projects.


• Management of and providing mentoring/support to junior engineers.
