Job purpose:
Your role is to support my everyday wellbeing of living with complex and diverse needs, helping me to live my life more independently. You will support me to reach their potential by providing both physical and emotional support. The role of a support worker is so varied \- each person has unique needs, for me it’s important you understand mental health and particularly Borderline Personality Disorder, Autism and ADHD and how this affect me, empowering me to live fulfilling, independent life while providing the necessary assistance to overcome challenges and achieve personal goals.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- To be supported in living the life I want to lead, support in making decisions if necessary.
- Offer guidance, emotional support and advice when needed.
- To support me with challenges I may such as making relevant phone calls, paperwork, etc.
- To support me in achieving my goals/ambitions as set out in my support plans.
- Provide emotional support during your visit. This includes behaving in a proper manor in relation to my emotions and emotional well\-being. Offering support and guidance where needed and knowing when to offer empathy and understanding. This job requires someone with a good listening ear.
- Monitoring mental health and well\-being, and to be contacted for support in necessary crisis difficulties if needed.
- Promote independency to allow me to manage and cope with stress factors.
- This job description may be subject to review and change in consultation with the post holder.
- Experience supporting adults or young people with mental health needs (paid or voluntary) desirable.
- This can include your own personal experience with Mental Health and how you overcome it.
- Experience in community, residential or clinical settings is an advantage.
- Knowledge on psychology preferable not essential.
- Good understanding of Borderline Personality Disorder and neurodivergence and have previously supported someone with these challenges.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and active‑listening skills
- Empathy, patience, resilience and non‑judgemental attitude.
- Ability to build trusting relationships and work person‑centred.
- Good observational skills
- Basic risk assessment and de‑escalation skills; able to manage stressful situations calmly.
- Team player who can also work independently and use initiative.
- Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Right to work in United Kingdom, passport identification is required
- DBS/CRB check or equivalent required
- Flexible to work evenings/weekends/shifts if required.
