This role offers the opportunity to become a key authority in payroll compliance and regulatory operations within a global and fast-evolving environment. You will help shape scalable payroll processes, ensure adherence to local legislation, and support the development of compliant payroll systems used across international markets. Working closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, Legal, and Operations, you will transform complex regulatory requirements into practical and efficient solutions. The position combines deep subject-matter expertise with strategic thinking, allowing you to influence product design, operational governance, and compliance frameworks at scale. You’ll also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, audit readiness, and risk mitigation efforts while helping teams strengthen their compliance capabilities. This is an ideal opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in remote, collaborative, and innovation-driven environments.

Accountabilities:

  • Own payroll compliance responsibilities for assigned countries or regions, ensuring local regulations are accurately interpreted and implemented across systems and processes.

  • Translate payroll legislation, tax rules, statutory calculations, and compliance requirements into structured specifications for technical and operational teams.

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Design, and Legal teams to build compliant, user-friendly, and scalable payroll solutions.

  • Lead complex audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance programmes while identifying root causes and driving corrective actions.

  • Act as a key escalation point for payroll compliance incidents, supporting investigations, issue resolution, and preventative measures.

  • Develop governance frameworks, standard operating procedures, controls, and monitoring mechanisms to maintain ongoing compliance.

  • Create and maintain detailed documentation, training materials, and knowledge resources to support internal enablement and operational consistency.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to provide compliance guidance for customer escalations, product expansion initiatives, and strategic projects.

  • Analyze compliance risks and operational gaps, driving continuous improvement and scalable best practices across payroll operations.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in payroll compliance, employment regulations, and statutory payroll processes within a specific country or region.

  • Strong understanding of payroll calculations, tax legislation, reporting obligations, and how regulatory requirements translate into operational workflows and system logic.

  • Proven experience leading audits, compliance reviews, investigations, or regulatory programmes in payroll or HR-related environments.

  • Ability to work effectively with technical and product teams to convert legal and compliance requirements into scalable product solutions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage sensitive or high-risk compliance situations confidently.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across Product, Engineering, Legal, Operations, and Leadership teams.

  • Experience developing compliance documentation, governance frameworks, training programmes, and operational controls.

  • Comfortable working autonomously in a fully remote, fast-paced, and asynchronous environment.

  • Demonstrated interest or experience in automation, AI-enabled workflows, or technology-driven compliance operations.

  • Fluent written and spoken English.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary package with globally aligned compensation practices.

  • Fully remote work environment with location flexibility.

  • Flexible working hours and asynchronous work culture.

  • Generous paid time off policy.

  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave.

  • Mental health and wellness support services.

  • Stock options and long-term incentive opportunities.

  • Learning and professional development budget.

  • Home office allowance and IT equipment support.

  • Budget for local co-working memberships and social events.

  • Inclusive and diverse workplace culture focused on collaboration, innovation, and employee growth.
