Role Overview

The Operations Assistant supports the Operations Manager and Operations Director with the day‑to‑day running of the surfacing and plant operations. This role is central to keeping the programme moving: coordinating plant in and out, managing fuel, organising surfacing teams, and ensuring all operational information is recorded accurately. The ideal candidate will be computer‑literate, confident working in a fast‑paced environment, and ideally have experience within asphalt, surfacing, highways, or a similar operational setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Operations Manager and Operations Director with daily operational planning and coordination.

  • Organise surfacing teams, ensuring labour, plant, and materials are allocated correctly.

  • Manage plant movements in and out of the yard, including logging, tracking, and reporting.

  • Oversee fuel usage, maintain accurate fuel records, and ensure plant and vehicles are fuelled as required.

  • Handle multi‑drop style coordination, including deliveries, collections, and site requirements.

  • Maintain accurate operational records, including job sheets, plant logs, fuel logs, and daily updates.

  • Communicate with drivers, surfacing teams, suppliers, and internal departments to keep operations running smoothly.

  • Assist with scheduling, programme updates, and last‑minute operational changes.

  • Provide administrative support, including updating systems, spreadsheets, and operational documents.

  • Build strong working relationships with site teams, ensuring clear communication and timely information flow.

  • Support general yard organisation and operational readiness.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes and efficiency.
Skills \& Experience
  • Experience in asphalt, surfacing, highways, construction, or a similar operational environment (preferred).

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple moving parts.

  • Confident using computers, spreadsheets, and operational systems.

  • Experience with multi‑drop, logistics, or scheduling is highly beneficial.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work under pressure.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record‑keeping.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with managers, operatives, and external partners.
Job Type: Full\-time

Pay: £40,000\.00 per year

Experience:

  • Asphalt/Highways Industry: 1 year (preferred)

  • Operations/logistics planning: 5 years (preferred)
Work Location: In person
