Managers in transport and distribution
Job Overview
We are seeking experienced Managers in Transport and Distribution to oversee and optimise logistics operations within our organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing transportation activities, supervising teams, and ensuring efficient supply chain processes. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of logistics systems, including Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and transportation management tools. The position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to process improvement initiatives and drive operational excellence across our distribution network.
Duties
- Oversee daily transportation and distribution operations, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with safety standards.
- Supervise and lead teams involved in shipping, receiving, warehouse management, and logistics activities.
- Manage profit \& loss accounts related to transport operations, analysing financial performance to identify cost\-saving opportunities.
- Coordinate with third\-party logistics providers (3PL) and utilise transportation management systems (TMS) for route planning and optimisation.
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and optimise warehouse workflows using continuous improvement methodologies.
- Utilise Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP systems, and AS400 platforms to monitor inventory levels, order processing, and shipment tracking.
- Ensure compliance with health \& safety regulations; operate or supervise the operation of forklift trucks and other warehouse equipment as necessary.
- Develop strategies for shipping \& receiving processes, including scheduling, documentation, and tracking.
- Analyse logistics data to identify trends and develop strategies for supply chain optimisation.
- Collaborate with cross\-functional teams to improve overall supply chain performance and customer satisfaction.
- Proven supervisory experience within transport or distribution environments.
- Strong understanding of profit \& loss management in logistics settings.
- Experience with process improvement initiatives such as Lean or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), ERP platforms, including AS400 systems.
- Knowledge of 3PL operations, shipping \& receiving procedures, and warehouse management best practices.
- Hands\-on experience operating forklifts or other warehouse equipment is desirable.
- Solid background in logistics, supply chain management, or related fields with a focus on continuous improvement strategies.
- Previous experience working with transportation management systems, ERP platforms, or similar software is highly advantageous.
