About the Role

Reporting to the Global Trade Compliance Director, the Manager, Global Trade Compliance Centre of Excellence (COE) will lead global strategy, governance, and operational excellence across:

• Product classification


• Denied and restricted party screening


• Export controls


• Free Trade Agreement (FTA) programmes


• Trade compliance systems and master data


• You will lead a global team of trade compliance professionals and establish standardised processes that strengthen compliance, improve data quality, leverage automation, reduce risk, and enable business growth.

This is a UK\-based remote position aligned to Basingstoke, with global responsibilities and regular collaboration across regions and time zones.

What You Will Do

• Centre of Excellence Leadership


• Lead and develop the Global Trade Compliance COE responsible for product classification, denied/restricted party screening, and FTA programmes.


• Build and develop a high\-performing global team while fostering a culture of compliance, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.


• Establish KPIs, service\-level expectations, and performance metrics to measure quality, effectiveness, and operational performance.


• Drive strategic initiatives focused on standardisation, automation, data quality, and operational efficiency.

Classification Governance

• Own global governance for HTS/HS classifications, ECCNs, Schedule B, Country of Origin, and related product trade attributes.


• Ensure trade data is accurate, current, appropriately documented, and maintained within SAP, Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, and related systems.


• Develop standardised classification methodologies, controls, documentation requirements, and review processes across business units.


• Partner with Engineering, Product Management, and Regulatory Affairs to classify new products and manage changes throughout the product lifecycle.


• Restricted Party Screening \& Export Controls


• Lead the global denied/restricted party screening programme for customers, suppliers, distributors, transactions, and other business partners.


• Establish governance for screening, escalations, end\-use/end\-user reviews, sanctions compliance, and recordkeeping.


• Partner with business leaders to resolve screening exceptions while maintaining regulatory compliance and business continuity.


• Monitor regulatory developments involving sanctions and export controls and translate changes into appropriate processes and controls.


• Free Trade Agreements \& Origin Management


• Lead global FTA strategy, qualification processes, and preferential/non\-preferential origin determination.


• Oversee qualification under applicable FTAs and preferential trade arrangements, including USMCA, CETA, and the UK\-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement.


• Develop standardised supplier\-origin solicitation, validation, qualification, and recordkeeping processes.


• Partner with Procurement and Supply Chain to identify legitimate duty\-saving opportunities while maintaining appropriate compliance controls.

Systems, Data \& Process Excellence

• Serve as the business owner for trade compliance master data within SAP, ONESOURCE, and related systems.


• Partner with IT and Corporate Global Trade Compliance to enhance system capabilities, automation, integrations, reporting, and analytics.


• Ensure data integrity through audits, quality reviews, exception reporting, and continuous monitoring.


• Lead implementation and optimisation of trade compliance technologies and process improvements.


• Compliance Oversight \& Risk Management


• Develop and maintain global policies, procedures, and work instructions consistent with the Global Trade Compliance Management System (GTCMS).


• Conduct compliance assessments and internal audits, identify risks, and implement corrective and preventive actions.


• Translate changes in global trade regulations into practical business processes, controls, and system requirements.


• Support investigations, remediation activities, disclosures, and regulatory enquiries as appropriate.


• Cross\-Functional Leadership, Training \& Communication


• Partner across Supply Chain, Distribution, Customer Service, Procurement, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Finance, Legal, IT, and Corporate Global Trade Compliance.


• Provide trade compliance guidance for new product introductions, acquisitions, supply\-chain changes, market expansion, and strategic sourcing initiatives.


• Represent the division during internal and external compliance audits and assessments.


• Develop and deliver global trade compliance training.


• Communicate programme performance, risks, and improvement opportunities to senior leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification/experience in Business, International Trade, Supply Chain, Engineering, Law, or a related field. Postgraduate qualification preferred.


• 8\+ years of progressive global trade compliance experience, preferably within a multinational manufacturing, life sciences, technology, or similarly complex environment.


• 3\+ years of people leadership experience, or significant experience leading global teams and cross\-functional initiatives.


• Advanced knowledge of UK, EU, U.S., and international customs, import/export, sanctions, and export\-control requirements.


• Extensive experience with tariff and export\-control classification, Country of Origin, FTAs, denied/restricted party screening, and export controls.


• Experience with ERP and global trade management systems; SAP and Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE experience preferred.


• Strong project management, analytical, problem\-solving, communication, and stakeholder\-management capabilities.


• Ability to work effectively within a remote, global environment across multiple regions and time zones.

What We Need From You

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in:

• Leading classification, screening, export controls, or FTA programmes within a global organisation.


• Applying strong UK and/or EU trade compliance knowledge, combined with substantial working knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations and global customs requirements.


• Developing standardised processes, governance models, compliance controls, and performance metrics.


• Managing trade compliance master data and enterprise trade systems.


• Influencing senior stakeholders and leading complex cross\-functional initiatives within a global matrixed organisation.


• Leading, coaching, and developing teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading or developing a Global Trade Compliance Centre of Excellence.


• Knowledge of customs valuation, preferential and non\-preferential origin, customs special procedures, and customs audit management.


• Experience implementing or optimising trade compliance software, workflow automation, and data analytics.


• Experience working across UK, EU, U.S., and other international regulatory environments.


• Lean, Six Sigma, project management, or continuous improvement certification.
