Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist
This role acts as a specialist resource, facilitating and coordinating the delivery of holistic, patient\-centred care for individuals diagnosed with lung cancer across the Trust. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring a high\-quality service is provided to patients throughout their cancer pathway, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to support timely access to care and treatment.
The post contributes to ensuring that all national peer review and quality standards relating to lung cancer services, staffing, and patient pathways are met through a coordinated team approach. Working in close partnership with clinical and operational colleagues, the Band 7 role is integral to the effective functioning of the wider lung cancer service and to achieving the Trust's strategic and operational objectives.
As a senior member of the team, the post holder will provide essential leadership, coordination, and support to enable the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate, and patient\-focused care. The provision of high\-quality care and an excellent patient experience will be central to all aspects of the role.
The post holder will contribute to service development, performance improvement, and the ongoing enhancement of patient pathways to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients with lung cancer.
The post holder is responsible for coordinating and supporting the lung cancer patient pathway, ensuring care is patient\-centred, evidence\-based, and delivered with effective communication across all healthcare settings. They act as a key point of contact and advocate for patients and their families, providing personalised information, emotional support, and guidance throughout diagnosis, investigation, treatment decision\-making, and ongoing care.
The role involves tracking patients across the entire cancer pathway, facilitating timely appointments, liaising with primary care, tertiary and surgical centres, and ensuring seamless coordination between healthcare professionals. The post holder provides psychosocial support, undertakes holistic needs assessments, and promotes a positive patient experience.
In addition, the role supports the multidisciplinary team through education, advice, audit activity, patient feedback initiatives, and participation in network\-wide improvement programmes. Responsibility also includes maintaining comprehensive data collection and reporting to support national audits, databases, cancer performance standards, and continuous service improvement.
