Legal Accounts Manager
We are looking for an organised and detail\-focused Legal Accounts Manager to oversee the day\-to\-day financial and accounting operations of the firm. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing client and office accounts, processing transactions and ensuring that the firm complies with relevant SRA Accounts Rules and financial procedures.
The role requires a high level of accuracy, confidentiality and professionalism, together with the ability to manage deadlines and work effectively with fee earners, clients and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the firm's day\-to\-day legal accounts and financial administration.
- Maintaining accurate records of all financial transactions.
- Processing client and office account payments, receipts and transfers.
- Monitoring client account balances and ensuring funds are correctly allocated.
- Carrying out regular client and office account reconciliations.
- Processing invoices, expenses and supplier payments.
- Monitoring outstanding invoices and assisting with credit control and debt recovery.
- Preparing financial reports and management information for senior management.
- Assisting with month\-end and year\-end accounting procedures.
- Ensuring client money is handled correctly and in accordance with the SRA Accounts Rules.
- Identifying and resolving discrepancies in client and office accounts.
- Liaising with banks, clients, suppliers and external accountants where required.
- Maintaining appropriate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Assisting with the preparation for external audits and SRA compliance requirements.
- Ensuring all financial information is treated with strict confidentiality.
- Supporting the firm's wider compliance, risk management and financial procedures.
- Providing guidance to fee earners and staff on accounts\-related queries and procedures.
- Previous experience in legal accounts, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Good understanding of the SRA Accounts Rules and handling of client money.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good knowledge of accounting procedures and financial controls.
- Experience using accounting software and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organisational and time\-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
