Laboratory Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail\-oriented Laboratory Manager to lead and oversee all operations within our scientific laboratory. In this pivotal role, you will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, maintain high\-quality laboratory practices, and foster a productive environment ensuring agreed priorities and timelines are achieved.. Your leadership will drive efficiency, accuracy, and safety across all laboratory activities, supporting innovation and ensuring reliable and accurate results. Duties

· To manage and maintain the laboratory area to GLP standards.

· To lead the planning and prioritisation of laboratory activities, balancing R\&D, Quality, Operations, stability and business requirements.

· To manage laboratory resources and allocate work across the laboratory team to ensure agreed priorities and timelines are achieved.

· To manage stability programs for products, which includes approval of protocols, setting up the stability trial, running of the stability and ensuring final signed reports are completed within the required timelines.

· To lead the development, optimisation, implementation and maintenance of laboratory test methods, working with R\&D/NPD and Quality as required.

· To implement new test methods developed within NPD within the laboratory systems and ensure compliance.

· To identify opportunities to improve test methods, laboratory capability, efficiency and robustness of testing.

· Manage and lead OOS investigations related to laboratory procedures.

· Support QC and QA functions in inspections and CAPA investigations.

· Provide support for development of new products and regulatory submissions through testing of the products.

· Support Operations functions in testing of materials for change control, relocation of manufacturing and new product introductions.

· Act as the lead for internally and externally driven laboratory audits.

· Manage external contract test facilities to ensure appropriate test methods are implemented and testing is delivered to required timelines and standards.

· Provide technical input into the selection of appropriate test methods and testing strategies for development projects and investigations.

· Ensure documentation relevant to laboratory functions is complete, current, and stored appropriately.

· Provide clear visibility of laboratory workload, priorities, risks and resource constraints to the Head of R\&D and relevant project teams.

· Communicate relevant project information and business opportunities to senior management.

· Provide technical guidance, coaching and development to laboratory staff.

Manage and supervise the laboratory Associate Scientists in undertaking their roles and responsibilities

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a laboratory setting with a strong understanding of scientific research methodologies


• Proficiency with Laboratory Information Management Systems for data management and reporting


• Excellent analysis skills with attention to detail for accurate sample processing and result interpretation


• Demonstrated leadership abilities in managing teams within a fast\-paced environment


• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with research teams and regulatory bodies.


• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant scientific discipline; advanced certifications are a plus. Join us as a Laboratory Manager to lead innovative scientific endeavors while ensuring operational excellence.

· Previous experience working within an R\&D, development or analytical laboratory environment.

· Experience of developing, optimizing or implementing laboratory test methods.

· Experience of planning and prioritizing laboratory testing or technical activities across multiple projects.

Desirable

· Previous experience within the medical device industry (other areas of applicable experience include Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics/Consumer).

· Experience supervising or providing technical leadership to laboratory scientists/technicians.

· Experience of method validation/verification and working within a regulated quality system.

· Experience supporting product development, investigations and regulatory submissions.

Competencies/Personal Skills

· Effective verbal and written communication skills.

· Valid driving licence – the role will necessitate travel to 3rd party suppliers within the UK.

· Able to work on own initiative.

· Able to plan, prioritise and organise laboratory and team workload across competing business requirements.

· Able to provide technical leadership and make evidence\-based decisions on laboratory testing and methods.

Pay: £40,000\.00 per year
