Contract: Full\-time, permanent

Hours: Rostered shifts across 5 days in 7, including early, late, weekends and public holidays

About the Hotel

Dublin Skylon Hotel is a family\-run 4\-star hotel in the heart of Drumcondra.

The hotel offers around 126 bedrooms, the Skylon Bar \& Grill, a large Lobby, Private Dining Room, Restaurant and Meeting Space. Guests include airport travellers, business visitors, families, DCU\-related stays and match\-day guests around Croke Park. The Duty Manager is the senior person on the floor during their shift and is responsible for keeping the house running smoothly, safely and to a consistently high standard.

Purpose of the Role

Act as Manager on Duty for the hotel during assigned shifts. Oversee Front Office and Food \& Beverage Operations.

Key responsibilities

Hotel Operations

  • Take overall responsibility for the hotel during the shift.

  • Complete opening, mid\-shift and closing Duty Manager checks, including public areas, bedrooms as required, F\&B outlets.

  • Coordinate Front Desk, Housekeeping, Kitchen, Bar \& Grill and Maintenance so service, rooms and facilities stay guest\-ready.

  • Monitor occupancy, arrivals, departures, VIP and group lists, and plan staffing and room allocation accordingly.

  • Complete accurate passover notes, incident logs and night/morning reports.
Guest Experience
  • Be visible in the lobby, restaurant, bar and corridors; greet guests and deal with requests promptly.

  • Own escalated complaints, recover service professionally, and log outcomes.

  • Support check\-in/check\-out peaks, airport traffic and event nights (especially Croke Park).

  • Conduct show\-arounds of rooms and facilities when needed and promote breakfast, Bar \& Grill and other hotel services.

  • Protect brand and house standards on cleanliness, presentation, public\-area appearance.
People and Leadership
  • Lead and support the on\-duty team; step in hands\-on at reception, breakfast or the bar when the house is busy.

  • Brief teams at the start of shift; coach, correct and recognise performance in the moment.

  • Support induction and on\-the\-job training of new colleagues.

  • Maintain fair, professional relationships across departments and escalate people issues appropriately.
Health, Safety and Security
  • Act as the fire, health \& safety and security lead on shift, including fire walks, alarm response and evacuation procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with hotel policy, HACCP and Cash Handling.

  • Respond to accidents, medical incidents, disturbances and maintenance emergencies; protect guests, staff and property.

  • Oversee cash, floats, night audit support and secure handling of keys, safes and lost property.
Commercial
  • Support upselling of rooms, breakfast, F\&B and parking where appropriate.

  • Protect cost control on labour, wastage and energy during the shift.

  • Flag revenue, reputation or operational risks to the management team quickly.
What we are looking for

Essential

  • Previous supervisory or duty management experience in a busy 3\-star or 4\-star hotel (Front Office and/or F\&B).

  • Strong guest\-facing manner and calm, confident complaint handling.

  • Ability to lead a multi\-department team on a busy floor, including evenings and weekends.

  • Solid knowledge of hotel health \& safety, fire procedures and cash handling.

  • Excellent spoken and written English; professional presentation.

  • Legal right to work in Ireland and flexibility to work unsocial hours.
Desirable
  • Opera or similar PMS experience.

  • HACCP and First Aid certification.

  • Experience of airport, sports\-event or high\-turnover city hotels.

  • Hospitality qualification.
Personal Qualities
Hands\-on, visible and practical. Composed under pressure. Fair with the team, warm with guests, and precise on handover and paperwork.
