Overview
Leach Structural Steelwork Ltd are a well\-established construction company specializing in structural steel fabrication and erection across the UK.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for a reliable and professional HGV Class 1 Driver to join our team, delivering our own steel products, plant and construction materials to sites nationwide.
The Role
As an HGV Class 1 Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of structural steel and related materials from our facility based near Preston to construction sites throughout the UK. While the majority of our projects are located within the Northwest, regular deliveries are undertaken nationwide.
Responsibilities
- Delivery and collection of structural steel, plant and construction materials to and from company sites.
- Safely load, secure, transport, and unload steel products using appropriate load restraint methods.
- Conduct daily vehicle and trailer checks and ensure all are maintained to a high standard.
- Complete delivery paperwork and transport documentation accurately.
- Communicate effectively with Office Management, Site Managers and other colleagues across the business.
- Comply with all UK driving laws, Working Time Directive requirements, and company health and safety procedures.
- Represent the company professionally while on customer and construction sites.
- Assist with loading operations when required.
- Valid HGV Class 1 (Category C\+E) Licence.
- Valid Driver CPC qualification and Digital Tachograph Card.
- Previous experience transporting steel, construction materials, or abnormal loads is desirable but not essential.
- Good understanding of load securing and safe transport practices.
- Strong awareness of health and safety procedures within the construction industry.
- Positive attitude, reliability, and excellent timekeeping.
- Experience delivering to construction sites.
- Forklift or slinger/signaller experience would be advantageous.
