Hours Of Work: Full Time:35 hoursMonay\-Friday (9:00am – 5:00pm)

Salary: £34k \+ pension scheme

Holidays: 25 days per year, plus bank holidays and a couple of additional days during the Christmas period to recharge and enjoy life beyond work

Purpose of role

At Zebra Students we provide accommodation to postgraduate students from all around the world. We have been going for over 60 years. Our building in South Kensington is a former Victorian hotel, near the tube station, and provides accommodation to around forty students, partners and families.

The building being old has its fair share of maintenance challenges and we need someone to be on\-site Monday to Friday during office hours to make sure the building feels well maintained. As our sole maintenance person at this building you must be prepared to get your hands dirty. An average day may include things like cleaning duties, pest control, building furniture, speaking to our students tenants, some painting of walls and maintenance work.

You will be part of our small and friendly Kensington Team who are based at the building along with a Manager, Administrator and Receptionist. This team will work with you on a day\-to\-day basis to agree your task and support you.

Requirements

You must:

• Have at least two years’ experience of a similar role in a Hotel, Student Accommodation, Serviced Accommodation or similar.


• Be ruthlessly clean and tidy. We want the public areas of this building to sparkle and storage areas to be organised at all time. You must be happy to get involved in cleaning and tidying.


• Be friendly and able to communicate well with our student tenants, visitors and team members. You will need strong English language skills, and skills in other languages in addition will be welcome.


• You need to be able to work safely and comply with Health and Safety rules. Training will be provided to you.


• You need to be able to carry out decorating work, including painting, in a very tidy way. We have corridors that need painting and also flats that need decorating between tenants.


• Be happy to get your hands dirty. Working in Central London means we need to deal with pests, pigeons and all kinds of other messes.


• Be able to build flat pack furniture and hang pictures.


• Be able to carry out basic repairs. This will include basic plumbing, small electrical works and simple carpentry. Please tell us more about your skills in these areas when you apply. If you have other skills such as tiling that would be great too. If you have any NVQs or similar we would be interested to know, but real\-life experience is more essential.


• Our team have to carry out regular inspections and H\&S checks around the building. You will be asked to help with these, and offered training to do them. This may include Fire Alarm Checks, Emergency Lighting Inspections, PAT Testing, legionnaires flushing and testing,


• You need to be able to handle stress – some times of the year get very busy especially. And sometimes things go wrong which is the nature of our work, and you need a cool head, a calming voice and a can\-do attitude!


• You need to be punctual – we start work at 9am every day and we are based in Central London near South Kensington tube so please ensure the journey to work is going to be practical for you before you apply.
