Job Purpose

Reporting to the Finance Director, your primary responsibility will be collaborating closely with them to support group and entity reporting and compliance. You will be responsible for managing the accounting of key central services and recharges, as well as managing group central accounting matters across the business.

You will help the group and the entities understand their financial performance and obligations by providing insight, while supporting and challenging them in equal measure, as well as provide strategic and tactical financial insights and guidance.

You will leverage your financial expertise to empower decision\-making and contribute to the overall financial success of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities


  • Group accounting: Collaborate closely with the finance managers to support consistency, accuracy and timeliness in month\-end closing. Assist the Finance Director with group accounting and intercompany reconciliation. Provide financial expertise, insights, and recommendations to enhance financial performance. Act as a liaison between the Group Finance reporting and commercial finance teams, promoting collaboration and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and internal control and intercompany procedures.

  • Month\-End Closing: Lead the month\-end accounts preparation and closing activities related to central businesses, including property and non\-trading companies. Deliver month\-end reporting on\-time, with accuracy, analysis, and informative commentary. Provide all required support to the group month\-end close.

  • Audit responsibility: Responsibility for group central annual audit. Collaborate closely with the finance managers to support the group audit.

  • Forecasting and Budgeting: Prepare budgets and forecasts for the central and group level businesses, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic direction.

  • Cash flow forecasting and treasury management: Work with the Finance Director and entity finance managers to prepare cashflow reports and forecasts and manage working capital requirements and treasury.

  • Insights: Act as the finance expert on all matters in your area. Offer analysis, provide insight, and make recommendations for future strategies.

  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to drive the efficiency and effectiveness of the central finance and reporting function. Challenge current ways of working, driving efficiencies and cost savings whenever possible. Proactively support the implementation of wider finance initiatives.

  • Projects: Manage projects and tactical initiatives, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with company goals.

  • Support: Act as a point of escalation for internal and external stakeholders. Provide general support to the central finance team and assist with ad\-hoc financial tasks. Assist the Finance Director with management of AP, AR and Vehicle Administration functions.

  • Team management: Lead, mentor, and guide the central finance team members.

  • Compliance and taxation: Working with the Finance Director and entity finance teams, ensure the group meets all statutory and compliance requirements including those related to taxation compliance, operational HMRC and Revenue matters relevant to the motor industry (eg MVRIS, TAN accounts) , and other statutory returns.

Essential Knowledge, Skills \& Experience


  • Must hold a recognised professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA) and a demonstrated track record of financial experience.

  • Thorough understanding of the motor industry and its financial dynamics is a distinct advantage.

  • Strong communicator with the ability to act as a liaison between Finance and the operational and sales teams.

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage several priorities simultaneously.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and a proactive approach to individual tasks.

  • Demonstrated strategic financial acumen and analytical mindset.

  • Commercial awareness with the ability to provide financial insights to drive business growth.

  • Proficiency in Excel for financial analysis and modelling.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Highly analytical and numerical with excellent attention to detail.

  • Capable of working without supervision and an ability to assume responsibility and take ownership of role.

  • Strong relationship builder.

  • Team player who can show flexibility and is prepared to assist others within the finance team where necessary.

  • Ability to work on a tactical and strategic level.

  • A flexible and adaptable approach to work and change.
