Tamworth Co\-operative is a successful independent regional co\-operative with a proud heritage dating back to 1886\. Today, the Society has well\-established interests across convenience food retailing, funeral services and property investment.
Our Food Division operates 11 convenience stores across Staffordshire, North Warwickshire and South Derbyshire, generating annual food turnover in excess of £27 million. We are also a member of the national FRTS buying group, which is used by Co\-op Group and other independent retail co\-operatives for the wholesale purchasing and distribution of goods to our stores.

While we recognise the challenges currently facing the convenience retail sector, Tamworth Co\-operative is well positioned for the future, with a clear strategy in place to support the continued growth, development and success of our business.
We have an exciting opportunity for a General Manager to join our business to lead and develop our Food division. This position is an Executive level role appointed by our Board and will play a key role as part of our senior management team.
Reporting into the Chief Executive Officer, you will lead, oversee and manage all aspects of this key area of our business with accountability for strategic direction, financial performance and operational excellence.
This is a people\-focused, hands\-on leadership role, working as part of our small senior management team within a values\-led co\-operative business. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping us build on our strong foundations, while ensuring that our colleagues, members and customers remain at the heart of everything we do.
Key Responsibilities will include:
\- Develop and deliver the retail strategy for the business aligned to overall plans
\- Lead the annual budgeting and business planning process for the Food Division
\- Proactively identify growth, development and Store optimisation opportunities
\- Own full P \& L responsibility for the Food Division
\- Prepare and present monthly trading reports and analysis to the Executive and Board
\- Develop business cases and recommendations for capital investment and other significant business changes e.g. Store Openings / Closures
\- Lead Area Management and Store Management teams to deliver operational excellence
\- Build a high performance, inclusive retail culture including workforce planning and succession planning and colleague engagement
\- Manage relationships with key suppliers and partners including negotiating on commercial agreements
\- Delivering on a range of KPI’s across the different responsibility areas of the role
To be shortlisted for the next stage in the process, you will demonstrate how you meet the following essential criteria within your application:
\- Proven senior level leadership and commercial experience within multi\-site FMCG retail including developing and delivering retail strategy
\- Strong track record of managing full P\&L and being accountable
\- Strong track record of delivering sustainable financial performance
\- Previous experience of leading budgeting and business planning processes
This is a full\-time role, 39 hours per week Monday – Friday. The successful candidate will be based on site at our Head Office in Tamworth \- B79 7HE.
Pay \& Benefit details
· Salary – Up to £80,000 per annum, dependent on skills and experience \+ £6k Car Allowance per annum
