The Knowe Garden is located on 1\.5 acres in a central and highly accessible part of the community; the site represents a significant asset that is currently underutilised. Due to its scale and setting, the garden is well suited to development as a mixed\-use space that genuinely encourages regular and diverse community use.

Our ambition is to transform The Knowe Garden into a more welcoming, inclusive and vibrant social space for all members of the community. Central to this vision is the creation of a dedicated, flexible outdoor events area capable of hosting live music, small festivals, performances and community celebrations.

Alongside this, a targeted marketing campaign will be developed to promote the expanded use of The Knowe Garden and the wider programme of activities and events. This campaign will aim to raise awareness, broaden participation and encourage greater community ownership and regular use of the space.

The Garden Development Officer will oversee a feasibility study, which will be undertaken by an external contractor, to establish clear steps forward on how outdoor events space within the garden can be best developed to meet the needs and wants of the local community.

Duties:

  • Create engaging promotional materials for The Knowe and the garden service, working alongside other members of the team

  • Driving increased usage of The Knowe by working with other departments internally (eg. youth, recovery) and external partners (eg. local schools).

  • Support the external contractor to collect the views of local people, driving forward a feasibility study
Essential criteria:
  • Experience of community development, project delivery, events, marketing or engagement work

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders including local people, partners etc.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, external contractors and partner organisations

  • Experience of gathering feedback or consultation views and using this to inform development plans

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities

  • Ability to work on own initiative and drive activity forward

  • Commitment to community\-led development, inclusion and customer satisfaction

  • Competent IT skills for producing promotional materials, communication and record keeping such as using Canva and Microsoft Office software
Desirable criteria:
  • Experience of supporting or coordinating community events, outdoor activities or public engagement projects

  • Experience of working in a social enterprise, voluntary sector or community\-based setting

  • Knowledge of local community needs and opportunities to increase use of outdoor spaces

  • Experience of working with designers, consultants or contractors on feasibility or development projects

  • Experience of creating social media or other promotional content to increase participation
