Full Stack Developer
About Us
Flok Jobs is on a mission to fix hospitality hiring for good. We're building the UK's first direct, real time platform connecting hospitality venues with verified, flexible staff. No agencies, no fees, no nonsense.
Founded on more than 25 years of hands on hospitality and recruitment industry experience, Flok is solving a problem that touches a multi billion pound industry and has never been properly solved. We're not just an idea on a slide deck. We already have real traction, an active investment pipeline, and a founding technical team with over 30 years of combined development experience between them, including a CTO with more than 20 years of enterprise technology leadership.
We're small right now, but we're going big. As we head towards launch with genuine momentum behind us, there's real room for the right person to step in, make their mark, and grow with us as the business scales.
This role could suit someone fresh out of university looking for their first real opportunity to make an impact, or a more experienced developer looking for genuine ownership and influence at an early stage company. What matters most to us is attitude, curiosity and the willingness to learn and grow. Experience level is secondary to that.
Important. Please Read Before Applying
This role has two distinct stages, and because we're building Flok the right way, with honesty and respect for the people who join us, we want to be completely upfront about both before you apply.
Stage 1 (unpaid, up to 4 to 6 weeks)
An initial period working directly with our Director, CTO and wider team, including one of our existing developers, to help get Flok ready for launch. From the moment you start, your input matters. You'll be involved in real discussions, technical decisions and product priorities alongside a team that already brings decades of hospitality, recruitment and software development experience to the table.
This period is unpaid. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours, and either side can end the arrangement at any time.
Stage 2 (paid and/or equity, ongoing)
At the end of Stage 1, we'll have an honest conversation about where the business is at and what we can offer. Depending on our position at that point, including funding and investment progress, this could be
A wage, or
Equity in the business, or
A combination of both, or
Equity initially, with a wage introduced as the business grows
Given the traction and investment conversations already underway, we expect to be in a genuinely stronger position by the end of Stage 1 than many early stage startups.
We know unpaid stages can raise legitimate concerns, so here's what we commit to.
You'll work directly with the Director, CTO and team, not sit on the sidelines, as your contribution and input will matter from day one.
At the end of Stage 1, we'll give you a clear, honest answer about what we can offer, with real feedback either way.
We won't ask for more time or scope than we agree upfront. No unpaid overtime, no scope creep.
If we're not able to offer a wage or equity at that point, we'll tell you clearly, rather than leaving it vague.
This arrangement will only suit candidates who are able to take on unpaid work for this initial period. If that doesn't work for your circumstances, we completely understand, and we'd encourage you to look at paid roles elsewhere with no hard feelings.
Why Now Is a Great Time to Join
This isn't a startup starting from zero. It's a business built on more than 25 years of hospitality and recruitment expertise, backed by a technical team with over 30 years of development experience between them, and with real momentum and investment interest already in motion. Joining now means getting in ahead of the crowd, while the business is still small enough that every person genuinely shapes what Flok becomes.
Whether you're a graduate looking to prove yourself on a real product from day one, or a more established developer who wants meaningful ownership instead of being one voice among many, this is a chance to be part of decisions that actually matter, not just execute someone else's roadmap.
Working Arrangement
We're based out of our Loughborough office. Hybrid working is available, as some of our existing team already work this way. We ask that you're able to come into the office regularly enough to stay closely connected with the Director and CTO, given the collaborative, fast moving nature of a pre launch startup with real deadlines ahead.
What You'll Be Doing
- Building and improving features across our pre launch web and mobile app (frontend and backend)
- Working directly with our Director, CTO and wider team, including an existing developer, on product priorities and technical decisions
- Contributing to our JavaScript/React based stack and supporting backend/API development
- Helping troubleshoot, test and refine the app ahead of launch
- Communicating regularly and clearly with the team, whether in the office or working remotely
We're open to candidates at different stages of their career, from recent graduates to developers with several years of experience. What matters most is
- A strong communicator, comfortable keeping the team updated, asking questions early, and flagging issues before they become problems
- The right attitude, proactive, positive, and willing to roll up your sleeves in a small, early stage team
- Willing to grow, comfortable picking up new skills and responsibilities as the role evolves
- Some experience or solid grounding in full stack development (JavaScript/React, Node, and general API/backend work), whether from university projects, personal builds, internships or professional experience
- Comfortable working across the stack, frontend, backend, and everything in between, or keen to learn the parts you haven't worked with yet
- Genuinely excited by startups and building something from scratch
- Able to work from our Loughborough office regularly (hybrid), or based near enough to commute
- Bonus, experience with AWS, app deployment (App Store/Google Play), or prior early stage startup experience, but not essential
A genuine seat at the table with a Director bringing 25\+ years of hospitality and recruitment expertise, a CTO with 20\+ years of enterprise technology leadership, and a founding team with over 30 years of combined development experience
Real input from day one, working alongside the people already building Flok
Hands on experience building a product tackling a real, unsolved problem in a multi billion pound industry
Real influence, your input can shape the product and team, not just add to a backlog
Direct mentorship and support from an experienced technical team, making this a strong environment to develop your skills quickly, whatever stage you're at
Clear, honest communication throughout Stage 1 about how things are going
A defined, written outcome at the end of Stage 1, a wage, equity, or both, depending on where the business is at
The chance to join at a genuinely pivotal moment, before launch, with investment conversations already in motion
Exact terms of any wage or equity offer would be discussed and set out individually in writing, not as part of this advert, and would depend on role, timing and mutual fit
How to Apply
If you're comfortable with the two stage arrangement described above, and excited by the idea of building something no one else in hospitality tech is doing, at a business that's already moving fast, backed by decades of real industry and technical expertise, we'd love to hear from you, whether you're just starting your career or bring years of experience. Apply with your CV and a short note on why you're interested in joining Flok Jobs at this early stage.
