Forklift Business Development Manager
We are looking for a driven and commercially focused Forklift Business Development Manager to generate new business across Edinburgh and the surrounding areas.
This is a pure business development role. The successful candidate will be focused on identifying, approaching, and winning new customers. There will be no management of an existing customer base, so this position is best suited to someone who enjoys prospecting, opening doors, and hunting for new opportunities.
You will be responsible for building a pipeline of new prospects, arranging meetings, understanding customer requirements, and selling forklift and materials handling solutions to businesses across the local area.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively generating new business opportunities across Edinburgh and surrounding areas
- Identifying and targeting companies that use forklifts, warehouse equipment, materials handling equipment, or related services
- Cold calling, prospecting, networking, and visiting potential customers
- Building a strong pipeline of new business opportunities
- Arranging and attending customer meetings and site visits
- Understanding customer needs and recommending suitable forklift solutions
- Preparing quotations and following up on opportunities
- Closing new business and achieving agreed sales targets
- Maintaining accurate records of prospects, activity, and sales progress
- Proven experience in business development, field sales, or B2B sales
- Strong ability to hunt for and win new business
- Comfortable with cold calling, prospecting, and approaching new customers
- Self\-motivated, resilient, and target\-driven
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Confident dealing with business owners, operations managers, warehouse managers, and purchasing teams
- Previous experience in forklifts, materials handling, plant hire, commercial vehicles, equipment hire, or industrial sales would be advantageous
- Strong knowledge of Edinburgh and the surrounding area
- Full UK driving licence preferred
This is not an account management position.
We are looking for someone who is confident finding new customers from scratch, creating opportunities, and converting prospects into active customers. The right person will be proactive, persistent, and comfortable spending most of their time developing new business.
