We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Respiratory Consultant to join our expanding team. We welcome candidates with a variety of interests and skills who are keen to contribute to and further develop our broad range of respiratory services.

Our department is proud to offer specialist services in asthma, tuberculosis (TB), interstitial lung disease (ILD), and cancer diagnostics. We also run a variety of interventional procedures including bronchoscopy lists and dedicated pleural clinics. Work with existing consultants and the multi\-disciplinary team to provide a high\-quality, well\-led service for patients of Ashford \& St Peter’s, including the diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management of patients, in accordance with Trust policies and practices.

Deliver Direct Clinical Care to patients, through all parts of the Department assisting clinical decision\-making and sharing equally in the workload.

To have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and to undertake the administrative duties associated with their care across 5 days.

To be part of the GIM On call rota during their rotation in St Peters.

Have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, ensuring safe handover as appropriate.

Engage with medical, nursing, management and all relevant co\-workers in the delivery of department objectives: to provide clinical leadership, improve the patient experience; ensure the highest quality clinical care.

Actively participate in and support other staff with education, research, audit and clinical governance activities involving a multi\-disciplinary workforce across the department.

Participate in the professional training of the staff in the department, both medical and non\-medical, and contribute as required to teaching sessions for other hospital staff as well as undergraduate and postgraduate staff, including supervision of junior medical staff.

The Department has developed an indicative job plan to support the recruitment of a Consultant Respiratory Physician with a specialist interest in Lung Cancer and COPD . The post is organised on an 18\-week rolling rota , providing a balanced mix of inpatient, outpatient and specialist activity whilst promoting consultant wellbeing through an equitable distribution of clinical commitments. The majority of Direct Clinical Care (DCC) is delivered through the department's Consultant of the Week model , where two Respiratory Consultants provide daily consultant\-led ward rounds across the 35\-bed Chestnut Respiratory Ward , together with specialist in\-reach to the Emergency Department (ED). The role also includes outpatient clinics, specialist services, multidisciplinary team meetings, procedural sessions and participation in the General Internal Medicine (GIM) on\-call rota.

The consultant job plan operates over two alternating weekly schedules within the 18\-week rota. Week 1 comprises an average of 7\.25 Programmed Activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 1\.25 PAs of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA), whilst Week 2 comprises 7\.75 DCC PAs and 1\.25 SPA. Both weeks include a predictable allocation of 1\.1 PAs for General Internal Medicine (GIM) duties.

The rota has been designed to ensure an equitable distribution of workload, enabling consultants to alternate between ward\-based, outpatient and specialist activities, balancing clinical demand while supporting continuity of care and staff wellbeing. These job plans are indicative and based on the current establishment of eight substantive Respiratory Consultants . A personalised job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate. All job plans are reviewed annually in accordance with the Trust's Consultant Job Planning Policy and may be amended by mutual agreement to reflect evolving service needs.
